The darkness seemed to have gotten attached to the place as Eva ventured in further and looked around with the help of the small flickering flame sitting on her palm peacefully.

Her boots patted softly across the floor as she carefully wandered deeper in, not knowing what was drawing her to this place. It felt like something wanted her in, something she had to find no matter what the cost.

The only problem was: she didn't know what.

"..."

The place seemed ancient as Eva faintly sniffed and scented something familiar in the atmosphere. The scent felt musky and she tried to pin the location where she last smelt it. Her thoughts hit a dead end and she breathed her irritation out.

Her feet abruptly halted as she hurriedly neared the metal door that greeted her vision as she lifted the flames closer to it. The material was rugged and the chains surrounding it clearly showed that whatever was inside was something dangerous.

Something that intrigued her even more and made her want to see what actually was inside.

A visible keyhole was placed a few meters below the place where her hand had come to settle. Eva nibbled on her bottom lip, wondering if she should go back and abandon her futile search or find a way to break her way in.

The latter made her want to smack herself in the head for letting curiosity get the best of her. What was it with her and dangerous places, Eva asked herself and found her mind void of any answers.

'As expected...'

Tapping her foot against the hard ground, her heart almost stopped when she heard a faint but audible noise coming from inside the barricaded cell.

Licking her lips, her pupils shook as she placed her hands on the metal door and leaned her ear toward it. The noise didn't repeat but she could hear brief breaths coming from within. Her hand ached from the sharp nails that were sticking out haphazardly from the chains but she still didn't remove them.

Looking back, she hoped that nobody would find her poking around in places where she wasn't supposed to be. Gwen would probably be angry as hell and the boys would be worried too.

'What if they told Theo?'

Eva shivered due to the temperature which only dropped further down. Her mind wasted no time in gathering up ways in which she could confirm that someone was locked inside there. Perhaps a maid or servant had accidentally lost their way or...

Or someone immensely dangerous was inside.

If it was the latter, then in simple words: Eva was doomed.

The place was vast and that could only mean that the person inside could easily escape his cell to wander around. Worse, she didn't know the passcode which would open the door again.

'What if it's "bastard" again?'

'...'

She didn't want to risk the inmate hearing her but if it was somebody innocent, they would surely hear her and respond back. Eva didn't have it in her to leave without confirming her doubts. If it was somebody blameless, then they probably ended up here in the same way that she did.

Accidentally.

Unintentionally.

'Well, I surely didn't enter unintentionally...'

Shaking her head, she parted her lips, taking a risky step forward to make it easier for her voice to be audible.

"Is anyone in there?"

Silence prevailed and Eva shuddered, trying to remind herself that she wasn't going to be scared by a little bit of darkness.

Breathing out, she once again knocked on the material, injuring her knuckles in the process. "Hello?"

And then suddenly, a small gasp escaped past her lips and she clamped her hand to keep her mouth shut. Dark swirls escaped the door from below through the small gap between the ground and the metal. The flame in her hand flickered as she took a step back, her hand trembling again.

'I fucked up, didn't I?'

'Yep, you did,' her subconscious face palmed and Eva swallowed nervously.

Should she run? Hide? But where would she go? The exit was locked and she was trapped here in complete darkness with nothing but a tiny flame keeping her company.

'Scratch that, the light's diminishing too!'

The darkness continued escaping the metal prison and Eva cast a last glance before making a run for it.

Her sense of direction had been messed up because of the panic that was now taking over. Her hand felt clammy and in no time, the ball of light extinguished into nothing, leaving her in absolute dusk.

'Trapped...'

She gulped, her dry throat making her feel as if breathing was getting harder and harder. Running a shaky hand through her locks, her eyes darted around as she continued stepping back without pausing.

Oxygen felt scarce as she gasped for air and tried to find something which she could touch or hold onto. 'There's nobody here.'

'You're alone again as you always will be...'

I am.

'You should've never been born.'

I'm sorry.

"You'll be the one to end her. I promise."

Her breath came out choked as her hands grasped around aimlessly and found their way to her neck. The tiny pendant felt cold in between her fingers but unexpectedly, it instantly felt easier to breathe as her sight cleared and her senses didn't seem so hazy anymore.

Inhale.

Exhale.

In and out.

"I'm willing to get down on my knees and beg. Just please open that door..."

She needed to get out.

'Focus...'

Moving her hands around frantically for something tangible, Eva took a few steps back hoping that there would be a wall that would stop her from falling or losing her senses once again.

Her foot met something hard and her eyes closed as she stumbled back and her head hit something that felt like a stable surface.

Blinking rapidly, she slid down to the cold ground and massaged her head hoping that she didn't get hurt too much. Her mind couldn't get damaged, it was a clear path to becoming a liability then...

And that was when, in the midst of darkness, she saw a pair of violet orbs that made hers widen in turn.

No...

'Theo?'
