His Only Shot

At this point, Dallin really doubted he would find someone to spend his life with because everyone here knew him as the weird plant guy with the monster dog but if he did by some strange chance, she would have to be cool with Pepper. They were a package deal. 

She had never liked other people much. She tolerated his parents but only loved him. 

The only other person he had ever seen that she greeted enthusiastically was the new girl who worked at his favorite bookstore. He had been shocked when it happened because Pepper never acted like that. 

Hailey hadn't been too fazed though. Even though Pepper was taller than her when standing on her hind legs. It was impressive that she hadn't been knocked over by the force. Either she was very strong or had experience with big dogs.
