Chapter 22

“No!” Daisuke exclaimed. “He’s her brother.”

I looked at him in awe. “Really?”

He nodded. “I think he’s about five or six years younger. They have another brother who’s still in Japan. I think he’s between them.”

“I never even thought of that.”

He showed me more of the house. There was a door beside their bathroom. It opened to a hot tub beside the house. It had a roof and a separate changing room with hooks to hang clothes. Two of the walls were open to the sun.

“We can use this year-round,” Daisuke told me. “There are walls that pull out and attach to the roof to keep the cold and snow out. You have to shower before you come out here. Takeo and Yuriko love to sit out here for hours. I guess it’s a Japanese thing. I could never just sit for that long.”

We turned and walked back into the house.
