On guard from start

The officer behind her asked while peering at the scroll. Were portraits so bad that they couldn't be used at all? However, instead of answering her, Lord Ren jumped up from his chair and reached forward to hold hands with Yu Dong. 

"Madam Dong! Would you be interested in working for the Yamen?" Lord Ren asked while holding Yu Dong's hands. His eyes were shining brightly as he said, "You will become a great addition to the Yamen." 

Seeing him react like this the officers looked at one another before turning and glancing at the scrolls that were scattered all over the table's surface.

However, as soon as their gaze fell on the scrolls, their eyes widened and for a second they couldn't believe that they were truly seeing something so exceptional. 

Was it even possible for someone to make such a sketch of a person? It was as if someone had captured and traced the face of the person on the scroll.
