Chapter 84: Bastards have brothers

Cassie met up with Daniel in the waiting room and plopped herself down beside him. Exhausted, she slumped back, hoping this was the last visit to the station for a while. Being here only made her feel worse because lying had become second nature. She was starting to believe the words. Hopefully, the cops believed them too.

"Randy's still in there." Daniel leaned in and lowered his voice. "We have some trouble coming our way."

She groaned and rolled her eyes. "What now? Please tell me Randy isn't going to prison."

"No. The case won't go to court, but someone won't buy it."

"What? Who?" Cassie urged. "Would you quit with the mysterious shit already! God! I'm going to start calling you Yoda."

Ignoring her, he stiffened and cleared his throat. "Remember how I told you that bastards have brothers?"

Cassie slumped back against her seat, remembering Daniel's words as they stood over the Dillon bonfire. She thought they were just words, simple reasoning, what ifs. "What did you see?"
