He truly did not want to make these things more complicated. 

Although Kuys was making it a problem for him, Ban could also understand where he was coming from as he knew that Kuys was also very protective of Emelia, just like how he always protects Ban. He probably doesn't want Ban to hurt Emelia's feelings.
