"For the last time Lisa I'm not going to that Medieval school party. I've got a lot on my mind to to focus on that" I chortle angrily, stuffing thins of fries I could barely afford into my mouth. It was a normal day alright, just that the only thing new to this day is that Lisa's been getting on my nerves.
"Oh come on you brick ball. All the sluts and possible jocks will all be there. Including all those naive nerds you've been constantly praising for days now. Everyone will be there to rub off the dust a little" she swatted my arm jokingly. The cafeteria was full today and prices of food had smartly moved on from one dollar a tray to three.
"Is Alan going?" I asked idly. He certainly wouldn't be one to take part in such things He's painfully reserved and self disciplined, Plus he's got a doting mother to worry about him if he's not back home on time.
Her face paled at once. I knew she'd never give up. Planting a victory smirk, I stood up and pressed my small duffel bag I've been managing for years now to my bosom. I walked away hurriedly before she came up with something new to convince me to go to that illegal party.
Yes it's illegal. The party has been the main talk for days now, with everyone getting an invite. It happened to be David Anderson, the most popular jock's birthday and yes you heard me call it illegal because his parents hadn't consented to it. They were out of town as I've heard and David was hell bent on celebrating his birthday.
David Anderson. The typical cliche type of guy every girl falls for but not me really. I'm not in search of good looks and I'm seriously against that dating of a thing. What's the point of it when you're not gonna take the relationship pretty serious anyway?
Yes,yes call me naive but I know a lot of marriages had sprouted forth from that kind of thing but I'm seriously not interested now to be in any sort of relationship. Not with the third semester examination coming up, or with the constant beating and bullying I receive regularly from my disgusting step brother and step mother. I got my fingers nearly annihilated today due to the tons of bricks Tiberius had ordered me to lift as punishment for arguing with him. He's my junior by a few months so don't be surprised. To add more sugar to my distasteful life, I'd smashed a few plates by accident and Aunt Lindsey banned lunch and dinner for me for a week.
So you see I've got a lot on my mind than to plan sneaking out at night to a reckless high school party that'd only bring me ruin in the end. The invite must have been probably sent online and my much too ancient laptop had been faulty this few weeks so I won't get one. But even if the laptop was still functional, I wasn't included on the school blog group, never even tagged. The invite was generally put up there. Once when I'd attempted to join in, my sweet brother Tiberius found out and had my cellphone and laptop seized for a month.
It'd served me right though.
I was so engrossed in these swirling thoughts of mine that I didn't seem to notice that I was walking straight into someone. Our shoulders brushed and me being the shorter one stumbled embarrassingly, butt on the floor.
Muttering curses, I got up quickly lest anyone saw me. My existence was something I wanted to keep a brooding secret so the least thing I wanted was a couple of freshmans pointing and snickering seeing my butt on the hard tiles.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going and then...." I'd wanted to keep on rambling but then I noticed that the person I was talking to had been remotely silent all along and my bag which I'd so lovingly grasped lay sprawled a few meters away, contents on display.
My orbs widened in alarm and the first thing that came to mind was.
"My Money!" I surged forward, hands frantic as I searched about for a small white paper pouch. It housed my whole savings and some heavy cash sent by my Dad's brother Tom who lived in Vancouver. He owned a Company that dealt with building materials and appliances. The both of us had fervently been in touch, despite Aunt Lindsey's attempt in making me cut all ties with my relatives. Mom had a sister in Florida who never bothered to reach out. He'd sent a stack of cash this morning to help me pay for the examination tuition fee.
The bag was gone. Someone must have picked it up and this school had a reputation for theft. One minute something's there and the next minute it's gone. no inkling, no twinkling. And with Lindsey's ban I'd be dead by month's end.
I was in tears now, bawling my eyes out shamelessly in front of students. I noticed a figure hovering beside me but I was too heartbroken to care right now. I just wanted death to come and take me away, just as it took my parents too.
Slowly, I felt my trembling self being pulled up by strong capable hands. Strawberry mint wafted up my nose as I sobbed terribly. Now what would I do? I'm already too poor for my monthly budget to be stolen.
