DEVIN AND I STOOD IN THE PARK.
We must have looked strange to passers-by with our small suitcase and bags on our backs, looking completely lost. Devin clung to the sleeve of my jacket, shivering when a gust of wind blew by.
"Isla?" He spoke in a small voice. "Where are we going?"
"I -"
"Isla?"
I whipped my head around at the familiar voice. My eyes dramatically widened at the sight of Xeros staring at us in confusion.
"Xeros, what are you doing here?" I asked, trying to keep the mild panic out of my tone.
"I was just on the way back from a friend's house..." He looked between Devin and I hesitantly, his eyes latching on our bags. "What are you guy's doing?"
Devin tugged on the edge of my sleeve. I looked down at him curiously.
"Who's he?" He whispered not-so-silently.
I smiled at my brother reassuringly. "Don't worry, he's a friend from school. You can say hi if you want."
