Night had fallen over Queensland and it seemed peaceful. The night was beginning to feel chilly and the wind blew harshly. Benjamin's house was empty, the twins had gone home and Paul was still nowhere to be found, leaving Melody and Benjamin home alone.
The couple was getting ready for bed, Benjamin sat in his wheelchair staring out of the window as his nerves began to skyrocket. This night felt strange to him yet he felt destined for this night, and it struck fear in his heart.
Sighing shakingly, Benjamin turned around in his chair to find his wife laying sideways on their bed as she stared at him with love and care in her eyes, "How did I get so lucky," she mumbled as Benjamin chuckled, "Shouldn't I be the one staying that?" He asked as she shook her head before getting up from the bed.
"No, and you want to know why?" She asked, walking towards him before sitting in his lap as he stared into her eyes, "Why?" He asked as tears welled up in her eyes, "Because you already had the love of your life who was taken away from you, and after all the pain and sorrow that you went through, you still accepted me and love me like I was the love of your life, so how did I get so lucky?" She replied before asking, as Benjamin reached up to caress her cheek, "You are the love of my life, no woman has ever done what you've done for me, you've loved me, cared for me when I couldn't care for myself, your patience was amazing, and you made me the man that has ever lived," he said as tears streamed down Melody's face.
She knew this was him telling her goodbye, but she wasn't going to address it, this was their moment, because, just like she said, she was going to die right alongside him.
Caressing his face, Melody smiled, "Would you like some tea?" She asked as Benjamin smiled, "I would love that, sweetheart," he said, widening his wife's smile before she leaned forward and kissed him, "I'll be right back," she said, kissing him one last time before getting up and leaving.
Benjamin sighed as he wheeled back to the window and as he looked through, he saw a split second of a shadowy figure bolting into his house, causing his face to fall in sadness.
"Please don't make her suffer," he mumbled before sensing a presence behind him, "He's not going to kill her," Koa said as Benjamin sighed before shaking his head.
"We must all suffer one of two things, you know what those two things are, Koa?" Benjamin asked as he turned to face Koa, who stood at his door frame, "What?" He asked as the darkness covered half of his face, preventing Benjamin from seeing the guilt in his eyes, "The pain of discipline, or the pain of regret or disappointment," he replied as his words made Koa's heartache, "Benjamin, I-
"Just do me one favor," he said as Koa's jaw clenched, "When he's done killing me, I'd like to lay with my wife, I need her next to me, please," he pleaded, causing a tear to drop from Koa's eyes.
"I'm sorry."
…
Downstairs, Melody sat at the dining table. Tears continuously stream down her face, "Why the tears, Mel?" Mateo's demonic voice echoed in the darkroom as Melody's breath hitched before she forcefully swallowed, "I'm so used to seeing positive Melody, the woman who wants everyone to be happy, especially when some of us need nothing more than misery and pain," he said as his shadow drew closer and closer causing goosebumps to raise on her arms as she slightly shook.
"I don't want to kill you, Melody, so tell me where your husband is?" He asked, as Melody shook her head, sniffling, "I'm afraid I can't tell you that, dear, you see, my husband and I have come in a two-for-one special," she replied as Mateo chuckled at her response, "You know, I admire you and Benjamin's relationship, I wanted that for my relationship with Rosalie, but she betrayed me, broke my heart by getting pregnant with that mutt's pup," he said as Melody gasp, "Rosalie's pregnant?" She asked as a tear dropped before her eyes.
"She is, too bad that after I kill you, I'll have to kill her," he said as Melody shut her eyes upon feeling his hot breath on her hair, "No," she whispered as Mateo sighed, "I don't have the time talk to Mel, how about we do this quick," he said as she flinches at the feeling of his claws grazing the front of her neck.
"Any last words?" He asked as Melody smiled weakly, "All these killings are not going to bring back your mother, Mateo," she said as Mateo froze, "What did you say?" He asked as the atmosphere grew dark and sinister.
"She would be so disappointed in you," she said as Mateo growled furiously, "Don't you dare talk about my mother, you know nothing, she'd be proud that I'm avenging her death, but you wouldn't know, you've never been a mother," he said as tears streamed down Melody's face.
"You're wrong, Javon, Aaliyah, James, Giovanni, Genesis, and Rosalie, their my children," she cried as Mateo cooed, "Too bad three of them are already dead and the other three are going to die, just like you," he said before slashing her throat as Melody lets out a gasp before falling back against Mateo and he held her around the waist.
"Shh, I got you, Mel, just go right to sleep," he whispered, slowly lowering her to the floor as she looked at him, "P-Please, go e-easy on him," she strugglingly pleaded as Mateo frowned, "I'm not good at making promises, sorry Mel," he said before watching as the life faded from her eyes.
"I thought you were only going to kill Benjamin?" Koa asked as he stood at the entrance of the kitchen, "I was, but wouldn't have let me spare her life," Mateo replied, before turning around to face him, "Where is he?" He asked as Koa cleared his throat, "He's upstairs, he knows you're here," Koa replied as Mateo smirked, "Of course he does, Benjamin was always too smart for his own good," he said before walking out the kitchen.
"I'll try not to make things too messy," he said before disappearing.
Koa walked towards Melody's dead body as tears welled up in his eyes. He remembered when he first met Melody, she was so nice to him and comforted him when he found out the truth about his parents. She was one of the angels of Queensland and because of him, she was dead.
"I'm sorry," he whispered before closing her eyes, "I'll reunite you with your husband, I promise."
…
The long creaking sound of Benjamin's door opening echoed in the room as Mateo walked in to see the man he was about to kill sitting near the window.
"Praying for your life, Benjamin?" Mateo asked as he slowly walked further into the room, "Did she suffer?" Benjamin asked, ignoring his question as Mateo glared at him. He was beginning to feel frustrated with Benjamin's calm behavior in this situation. He felt nothing coming off of him, no fear, sadness, anger, nothing. Just overwhelming calmness.
"My intention was never to kill Melody, but she wouldn't let me," Mateo replied as Benjamin chuckled, "She was always such a stubborn woman," he said as Mateo's jaw clenched, "Why are you so calm, you're about to die?" He asked as Benjamin turned around to face him. A small smile plastered on his lips.
"I've already accepted my death," Benjamin replied as Mateo scoffed, "Even if it would hurt your granddaughter, who is pregnant?" He asked as Benjamin's smile widened, "She'll be fine," he replied as Mateo smirked, "She'll be dead, just like you," Mateo said as Benjamin smirked, "That's what you think," he said as his words angered Mateo.
Swiftly walking towards Benjamin, Mateo grabbed him by the neck before lifting him off his wheelchair Benjamin grunted in pain, "I'll be sure to kill her and that little mutt inside of her," Mateo gritted through her teeth.
"Then prepare to w-watch your life crumble in f-front of you because I promise my s-sons will come for you," Benjamin struggling said, earning a growl before Mateo tossed him to the floor as Benjamin groaned in pain before chuckling, "You are your father's son and you'll fail just like him," he breathlessly said before Mateo plug his claws into his chest right above his heart as Benjamin stared at him with widened eyes, "I'm nothing like my father," Mateo said before removing his hand as Benjamin dropped lifelessly on the floor.
"Let's hear what Rosalie would say when I tell her that I killed her grandparents.
...
The door to Mateo's room burst open as Rosalie flinched awake. The sudden bright light burned her eyes as she shoved her face into her bended knees, "Hello, my love," Mateo greeted as he watched his hopeless Luna early move closer to the wall, she remained silent, "I have some good news you," he said as Rosalie looked up to see him cleaning blood off his hands.
Tears filled her eyes as she had a bad feeling about something, "Why the tears already?" He asked with a fake pout on his face before he began chuckling in amusement, "Alright, you should be crying because didn't I say I would kill the people that you loved, too bad you weren't there to see the life fade from Melody's eyes or the blood pour from Benjamin's chest," he said as Rosalie began to cry shaking her head in disbelief.
"It's alright, my love, you can blame your brother for their deaths, after all, he did lead me to them," he said with a smirk on his face as Rosalie's face went blank and her tears stop falling.
"You look kind of tired, I'll leave you to rest," he said before shutting the door, leaving her in complete darkness.
