Chapter 40

Austin and Courtney were a tangled mass of limbs, but he didn't care. The time had been too lengthy since he last had her in his bed beside him. Satisfied, he drew her tighter to his side.

In the quiet between them, he wondered what it was about Arizona that made her feel so safe. "Tell me about Mrs. Meyers." He kissed her temple.

She pushed her hair from her face and smiled up at him. "She's a heavy woman with gray hair. I don't think I've ever seen it out of its bun. When I need it, she'll offer comfort, but most often times she's real blunt. The direct approach is more her style. She doesn't like to coddle." She burrowed into his chest.

He wondered if she regretted her decision to get in the car with his sister, a virtual stranger. What had possessed her to in the first place? Before he could ask, she was talking again.
