Dave closed his eyes, his throat becoming tight again.
He really wished Anastasia was here. His friend would know what to do - how to talk about something as serious as a heart-wrenching loss.
"Listen, I know this is hard to hear. You've just had a traumatic experience-"
"No, Dave. I know. I know, okay...?" Cathleen cut Dave off once more, tilting her face to his and startling him with the unmistakable lucidity in her gaze.
"Look, I'm not sure how to explain this to you, but I saw her. Not like at the building but…"
She exhaustively let out a frustrated huff, gesturing around at the room and at her bed.
Dave looked at Rupert again, receiving a nod from him - something was happening here, something difficult to put into words. But after witnessing humans turn into flesh-eating, ravening monsters, they were the last people to say that something which didn't make sense was therefore wrong.
