Iris

We stood at the front door of my house. My dad still had my wrist in his hands.

"You better not wake your mother and sister, girl, they're asleep," my dad warned.

He unlocked the door and we walked inside. Mom and Brielle were sound asleep together on one of the two beds we had. I walked over to the table and took the stolen goods out of my pockets. A watch off a man's wrist, a few paper bills from a man's back pocket, a necklace from a woman's neck, and a few other things too worthless to mention. I set the objects down on the table, but handed the paper bills to my dad, "For the Tax." He took the bills from my hand and put them in a jar labeled "Tax". I walked to my room and locked the door behind me. I threw myself on the bed with an exasperated sigh. Why did my dad hate me so much? Sometimes I wish I could Entrance him into not being so obnoxious anymore. Just as I was about to turn the lights off and go to bed I heard a knock on my window. I turned to see Hunter at my window gesturing for me to let him in. I walked over to him and opened the window, "What is it this time Hunter?"

He looked at me with a smirk, "Couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd come over. What are you doing?"

"Well, I was trying to sleep. But then you interrupted me."

"Yep, that's me. Don't know when to quit," he extended an arm for me to help him in. I took his hand and pulled him into the room. I raised an eyebrow at him, "Seriously Hunter, what do you want? You know my dad will get pissed if he finds out you're here."

He plopped himself on the bed and said, "Just wanted to let you know that I can't make it to ability training tomorrow. I've got a date."

I didn't know why that bothered me, "A date? With who?"

He gestured out the window, "You know that girl down the street, Gianna. She asked me out so now we're going on a date tomorrow. We can meet up for ability training some other day though. Plus, I think we deserve a break. I'm always super exhausted after training."

Every Friday Hunter and I go deep into the Pine Forest to practice our abilities. He practices controlling fire and I practice Entrancing him. He's used to it by now so he doesn't get freaked out when I do it. We've never missed a training day once since we started going into the woods together, so it was kind of a big deal that he was skipping it. For some reason, I didn't like the idea of him hanging out with another girl. Just thinking about it made me feel queasy. I sat down on the bed next to him, "Okay. So you're skipping training. That's a first. Are we just gonna meet up next Friday?"

He looked down at his hands, "Well, I was just thinking we could move it to this Saturday. Is that cool?" I shrugged my shoulders trying to act okay with everything and said, "Sure. I'm fine with that." He got up from the bed and walked over to the window, "Okay then. See you Saturday." I waved goodbye to him and said, "See you Saturday. Good luck on your date." And with that, he climbed out of the window and he was gone.

Sorry this chapter was so short. I promise the next one will be longer and more interesting. I just wanted to add an extra flair to the story. Thanks for reading my book, I really appreciate it. Let me know what you wanna see next and I'll try my best to include it in the next chapter.
