Lost in time

The darkness around me was everlasting, I couldn't see but I could feel myself drowning. Though my heartbeat seemed to function normally, my mind was spinning, my body was shaking in panic, and my breath was unfulfilling.

As I opened my eyes, I glanced at the window. The sun seemed to burn every living thing on the Earth as its radiating heat magnetized my eyes; the sky was red, like blood dispersing towards the ground. I was alone in my room, and as I turned my head towards my chest, my vision became a little blurry but I was able to recognize my naked body.

I stood up, but the wires connected from my arm to a machine pulled me back. There were several medications sitting on the counter and a gown that laid on the side of it. Once I pulled out the wires, I grabbed the gown and covered my body with it; in the pocket was an ID card that had a picture and a 'Dr. Grimsbane'.

On the wall I saw a calendar which I figured would be great to know at least what day it was, the pages were clipped in the year 1924 on the month of October and the 31'st day was circled in red.

"Halloween, huh? Wait.. I remember it was 2010 the last time I checked." Somehow that was the only thing I was able to remember.

I decided to search around the building so I made my way towards the door and into the hallway. The floor was cold and the air conditioner was on, letting me know someone was in the building other than me, that was good I thought.

I passed by several rooms that were locked when I tried to enter, until I reached the office and it was unlocked.

"Hello?" I called out for anyone that could assist me.

As I searched around no one seemed to be on sight, though I found a bathroom so I approached the opportunity to wash my face and gather all the information I had.

I had come to the conclusion that I was in the hospital, and that Dr. Grimsbane was the one taking care of me, though I couldn't remember why. I still didn't know who I was but I figured at least someone had to be inside the hospital, so I had hope.

Letting the water run, I looked at myself in the mirror and wasn't able to recognize myself. Even if I couldn't remember how I looked, my appearance was strange, my face was covered with a large white gauze, though my eyes seemed distorted. The rest of my body seemed fine but as I felt my arms, they were hard and rough; my scars were gone and so were my bruises.

"Just what happened to me?" I wondered.

A loud scream caught me off guard from behind. Out of nowhere, there was a little girl on the floor screaming and sobbing, she had blood all over her though she seemed unharmed.

"Hi? Um are you okay ma'am?" I asked cautiously while I slowly walked towards her.

"Don't come near me!" She stormed out of the room and ran. I followed her knowing she'd probably know something about where we were.

She stopped at a room that read 'Cafeteria', and sat on the table. Her face turned normal as she stopped crying and started eating a meal that was in front of her.

"Ma'am. Hello. May I speak to you? I'm a little lost and I haven't found anyone else to talk to.." I talked softly trying not to scare her away again.

"Oh. You're... one of those.,," she gasped.

"Pardon?" I implored furrowing my eyebrows.

"Come sit. Um.. I probably shouldn't say this but.. You're not gonna want to be alone here, so sit. Before they come." She viciously patted beside her seat showing me to come sit next to her.

I continued down the cafeteria and sat next to her. "What do you mean? Them? Who's them? And why were you crying just a second ago?"

"The Nazis." She snorted, "oh. Yeah that well, that's what we mental patients get, they say it's.." she leaned near me and whispered in my ear, "bipolarity".

"Nazis? Um.. Where are we? What do you mean by mental patients, do you know anything about me??" I was very confused.

"You ask too many questions. Oh look there they are, look down and act normal."

"Okay.." I whispered, still confused. I did as she said, as a large group of people entered the room.

"So what are we going to do about it, sir? We can't just sit here and wait, we need to capture more hostages." One of the men in dark green uniform commented.

"I'm aware, soldier. But we also need to keep track of the camps. The president was very strict about it. So don't go off your duty, understood?" The tallest of them all, who wore badges on his uniform, responded with a firm face.

"Yes, sir."

"What are you looking at, you sick mental bastard?" One of the soldiers caught me looking at him.

I remained silent and looked down, but the soldier walked towards me in fury. He grabbed me by my hair and lifted his head upon me. 'Yeah that's it, look down, as you should." He let me go and walked away with the rest.

"Didn't I say-"

"So what's your name?" I cut her out.

"Diana Forbes" She smiled. "What's yours?"

"I.. don't know."

"You must have lost your memory when they were checking on you." She nodded and seemed to understand my situation.

"I'm still confused.."

"Maybe you should ask your doctor, we are all assigned one, after all. Do you know who your doctor is?" She asked curiously.

"Yeah, here." I showed her the ID card in my pocket.

"Dr. Grimbane.." Her eyes widened, and she gave back the ID card almost immediately.

"So..?" I wondered why she had reacted like that.

"Sir, you are one hell of an unlucky boy." She stood up and left.

There I sat, confused, wondering how I even ended up in this situation in the first place.
