We sat face to face in silence for a really long time. I am sure we had a lot to say, but we didn't know where to begin.
Once she showed up at the precinct things got a little awkward. Not only for just the two of us, but for the whole precinct. I assumed it would be nice to get some privacy so I invited her over in the cafeteria.
The tension between us was so thick that one could cut it with a knife. I cleared my throat multiple times as if I was about to say something but nothing else came out of my mouth. On the other hand, she glanced at me multiple times. Everytime she opened her mouth to say something she shut it down instantly without a word. All these years that I have known her, she had never been this quiet.
"Can I get you anything else sir"? The waiter asked us with mild hesitation when we were done with our coffee. I can't believe we finished a whole cup without saying anything.
