We are free(Hive 2)

(A/N : IF by some bizarre motive you guys didn't realize, this world ain't the normal TWD its more of an AU than a normal apocalypse world. Though there won't be any super powers or zombies with god know what sharingan or with magic.)

<Alex Piercer POV>

As we approach our target I could see clearly against what we will go: a huge creature that had the upper body shaped like a balloon while the bottom part was just like a normal pair of legs.

While this isn't the first hive our unit has dealt with, my squad was select for another reason and this mission is more like a way for us to escape and find Eric Jarl, the son of doctor Jarl the man that helped us.

While I was checking the equipment of all of my squadmates, we heard the pilot speaking.

"Ten seconds till we are above our target. Be ready to jump in people!"

When the two men pushed the armed c4 bomb out of the plane, the bomb landed on top of the hive before exploding. The explosion managed to create a hole big enough for a tank to enter which will be at the same time our entrance and exit.

"Let's move team. The sooner we finish this, the sooner we will get to rest."

I was the first one to jump out of the helicopter and when I landed inside the hive the first thing that I saw was the face of an armored zombie ready to pounce on me. (A/N: Armored zombie- volatile. It's the term the army uses for volatile in this novel. It won't be used too often after this mini-arc)

Fortunately for me and unfortunately for the zombie, Ivan, our heavy gunner landed right on top of it smashing the poor undead into the hive floor killing it once and for all.

"Fucking Upyr (Ghoul or Slavic zombie) it almost got you comrade."

"Thank you, Ivan. If not for you that thing would have eaten me for sure. Even after 40 years, you are still in shape."

"конечно! (A/N: Konechno which means of course in Russian-won't use any more of these as it's a pain in the ass to use the Russian alphabet with a normal English keyboard.) Even at the young age of 56, I'm still in my prime. HAHA"

While Ivan was laughing, the rest of the squad jumped out of the helicopter and joined us.

Seeing that we were all inside, I decided that it will be best to move in a formation that will cover all of our flanks and that would protect us from an ambush that may wait for us to pass.

As we slowly made our way deeper into the hive, more and more zombies blocked our path, forcing us to stop and kill them before we could continue on our way.

By the time we drop to another level, we killed five more armored zombies and an unknown number of normal zombies.

Unfortunately for my team, when we were ready to drop to another level, one of my squadmates was caught by an armored zombie towards a group of normal zombies killing the poor man painfully.

"Shit, open fire! Kill these fuckers."

The only bad part of this mission was that we couldn't use grenades inside as it would bounce out of the wall and that may result in unnecessary casualties.

I aimed at one zombie and fired my rifle. The zombie falls down with a hole in his head.

By the time we managed to kill the zombies on this level, my squad was reduced to only seven people. Two more people joined the casualties of this mission and we barely even cleared four levels out of god know how many.

Being a fairly huge hive, I was sure that we would stumble upon the hearth of the hive on the next level which means that it would be even more dangerous than it was already.

All of us knew that this was a dangerous mission and that there would be casualties, but we didn't think that we will lose almost half of our squad before we could complete our mission.

I know that we will lose someone if the next level will be the hearth and that made me sure of my next decision.

"Brothers and sisters, I want to tell you something that may make you happy. Doctor Jarl, you know him for sure, has selected every one of us for a mission that would free us from the shackles of our leaders. Every single one of us will be free after this mission as the base will cease to exist. Even Samuel's (Pilot) crew is included, maybe they know already about this or if not, we will be the ones to tell them this beautiful piece of information. Our only goal after this or at least that's my goal and my brother's goal is to find the doctor's son, Eric Jarl, and give him the doctor's recording. After that, we may choose what to do, but from what I heard about the boy, he's a competent leader and his group is already like a small army with proper training and roles. The two of us will join him and if anyone of you guys wants to follow us, you are more than welcome."

Hearing my speech, no one said anything, but I knew that they are willing to follow me and that they are glad that we are free at last.

Without wasting any second, we dived down another level and while this level was presumed to be the hearth, we barely encounter any resistance which was quite strange.

Regrettably for us, just as we found the hearth as we called the zombie that control the hive, twenty-five armored zombies surrounded us.

Noticing the fact that we are dead for sure, I decided to do something stupid. I picked my grenade belt and pullet one pin of a grenade-throwing the belt to the hearth.

By the time, the armored zombies noticed the belt it was already too late for them to do something that may save the hearth of any damage.

Despite their doom, the armored zombies decided to try saving the hearth and that gave us the chance to save ourselves.

The explosion was absorbed by the hearth and the small group of armored zombies letting us escapes safely to the levels above.

Five minutes later we exit the hive and saw the helicopter flying above us waiting for our arrival. I smiled looking at the angel above us and turned to my squad.

"Ivan, Nicolas, Kara, Lisa, Maria and Octavia, we are free. I hope you guys are ready for your new life far away from the horrors our superiors have created."
