Prayers

"This is the twelve-day right?"

"Unfortunately. Say, Andrew, do you think something may have happened?

"I don't really know. Why don't you go check? Beth is your girlfriend after all. Take the Humvee and the van with you, you may need backup in case something may have happened."

"Thank you, Andrew."

"No problem, kid. Just be careful ."

Half an hour later, I, together with ten more soldiers left the Station. I know that I may be paranoid, but I don't like what I felt a week ago. It was like something bad happened and I couldn't have done anything to change that.

In the last month, we got trained by Andrew, Paul, and Olivia in how to properly fight with a firearm, how to coordinate with your teammates/subordinates, what hand signals should be used, or how properly repel an ambush. While Ace and Jon trained some guys to our engineer corps, vehicle supports, or even snipers.

Of course, this type of training takes time, but the guys and girls got their basics and will be able to put a decent fight against the thugs and zombies.

It was already past 2 pm when we arrived at Hershel's farm and from what we saw, the place was hit pretty bad by a horde.

We slowly approach the entrance with the Humvee in front of us while the van was left some meters behind. When we entered the fort, we were meet by a bunch of hungry zombies. Unfortunately for them, our machine gun tears them to pieces.

After we cleaned the place of any zombies that we could find, I decided to check everybody in case I recognize someone.

When I saw Otis and wife, I kneeled before them and begin to slowly cry. I may not know him for too long, but Otis was a good man, the same thing can be said about his wife. After I cried for some time, my men told me that they found two men dead after they pulled a final stand in the barn.

As I entered the barn, the first thing that I saw was the sheer number of bodies on the ground. At the end of the barn, I saw Andre's body, and besides his body stood an older man with a rifle still in his hands. Both of them were dead, but they died like some badass guys. I also tear up a bit seeing Andre. Immediately I begin to think about what happened with Beth. Would she be still alive? Has she died? As much as would have liked to see her, I knew that if she remained here, I would be able to stop myself from going crazy. She was the first girl that make me develop such feelings that weren't based on physical attraction.

Three hours later, we finished checking the whole farm of any zombie or survivors, unfortunately, we didn't find anyone alive. At the same time, I didn't find another person that I know dead which means that Beth and her family managed to survive this hell.

The whole trip back to our home was silent. No one dared to speak or say anything as they knew that I was hit pretty bad by what happened at the farm. I know that it isn't their fault, but I can stop thinking about Beth and how's she doing right now. Every time I imagine her, I could only see her body which didn't make me feel better, on the contrary, it made me want to cry even more.

When we returned home, I didn't talk to anyone for the whole day as I locked myself in my room. Paul, Olivia, Lee, and even Ellen tried to speak with me only to be greeted by silence.

The whole night I stood awake to think about what I should do now. I knew that I couldn't leave the Station to go on a suicidal mission of searching for Beth. I have people that depend on me to keep them safe. I have soldiers that will follow me to death if that's what I order them to do and for the first time in my entire life, I kneeled and pray to the Norse Gods, just as my mother taught me when I was a kid. Even if they don't exist, I had to do something that would make me feel even a tiny bit better.

After one whole night of praying to the Norse Gods without receiving any sign that someone had listened to prayers, I decided to sleep for a few hours before I try once again. Even if the goods aren't real, I would still pray to the Norse Gods, hoping that Beth will be safe.

<POV Unkown>

"Father, we are the last ones still living."

"I know son. The other failed miserably. They thought that they could the End of Times just because they have a tiny bit of strength. Any news from my friend?"

"Yes, there is one matter that you should check. It's about a boy that still pray to us in this age and time."

"Ho? That's interesting, but why should I care? There are thousands if not more of people that still pray to their gods to save them from this apocalypse. What can a single boy do to make us answer his prayers?"

"The boy is a pure Norse. Even Heimdallr doesn't know-how is still possible for a pure Norse to exist. His father's family may have had Norse lineage, but with the time that blood should have been diluted. As for his mother, she was just a normal woman. "

"Hmm, tell why does the boy pray to us for? Strength? Salvation? "

"No father, he prays to us to watch over his girlfriend. He doesn't care about anything other than the safety of his loved one."

"A true man in a boy body. Say, Thor, if he loves her so much, what will he sacrifice just to have a chance to find her?"

"Everything that belongs to him, other than his friends their home that they managed to create ."

"That devotion to his lover and his friends. I decided. Thor if he continues to pray for a week, I will grant him his wish with my last powers ."
