Chapter 10

It was almost a half hour before they all had their fill of meat. The foxes almost reminiscent of people after a large meal. Resting on their sides, huffing with a sort of happiness. Their tongues hanging out of their mouths. Syren was licking her lips, full, but ready to move around. The young wolf was the last to finish, his face a little bit of a mess on his lips. Tongue flicking over to clean up.

Only now, he noticed his mother had a line of blood that was on her cheek scruff, worry emanating from him as he approaches Syren. The wolfess bending her head down to look, letting him get a better look at trace of scar tissue, it was almost looking like it had days spent healing. It almost seems like they should be starting to fall off.

His worry satisfied, he feels a strange need to look at the corpse. Instincts being followed, breathing through his nose deep, a sort of huffing breath, going over the corpse, everywhere the breath touches, starting to fall apart. It falling into itself, like it was a model made of ash. The crumbling of the body was an interesting scene, causing he foxes to bolt up.

It was almost scary thoughts that his breath caused such a change. He runs a paw through the remains, kicking it away, it was different then his previous hunt. He makes note of the fact there isn't a single yellowed blade of grass around. It almost seems like some of the grass had gotten greener. His mother reassured him, showing a previous hunt with his father, him having taken the same actions.

The vixens look at him a little warily, a small bout of wind blowing through the ash, forcing it to be stirred up, flowing away. The fact that there would soon be nothing left of their hunt. It was a little strange thinking that no remains were left to scavengers. It almost felt like a few crows might have given him the stink eye. Cries from the irate scavengers, promptly ignored by the group, heading back towards the cave, the pace sedate compared to their earlier run.

It was like riding as a passenger in a vehicle then driving back on that same route. Only a few general ideas of landmarks were present in their minds, having been more focused on their movements and Syren. It was quiet as they made their way back. Each step carefully placed by almost everyone. Azure and Lapis were a little less strict with their movements. They sniff at almost everything, their curiosity almost overwhelming.

The wolfess sharing information with them, letting it be a quick moment to fill up their minds. It was almost a constant stream of information being exchanged back and forth between the two. Nadia was giving light barks to keep the pair moving. Grabbing them by the scruff and carrying them along for a few moments. It was 20 minutes before there was a crunch, sounding like a shot to the wolf cub. Causing them all to freeze, the little cubs unsure what caused them to stop. Their mother didn't even answer, head shifting and looking for something to let her know the worry isn't founded in anything.

While the wolf cub had been worried about hunters, his mother was soon to find the true problem. A roar of primal dominance let out from a massive ursine mouth. Birds and rodents flee for the safety of trees or their hollowed out holes. Even though the young little cubs knew they should be leaving as quick as possible. A secondary roar seems to be answering an unspoken call of challenge. While the cub would love to watch the fight, he knew in his heart, if he did, he might not survive.

His mother was quick to start guiding them, heading deeper into the forest. Abandoning his home that he had for a short time did not even seeming to have as much connection to the place as he would have.

Nadia was seeming to gain more energy, adrenaline seeming to be pumping, quickly gathering up the pair of sister's. The pair seeming in one mind of running through small little groves of trees, harder for what sounded like huge predators a time to get through, or around.

It was at least an hour of their steady distance eating pace, before they arrive at the edge of the forest, looking out over a sea of grass, the blades tall enough to even hide his mother in the waving blades. Nadia and Syren looking over their choices, following the edge of the forest, or trying the grassland.

Both seemed to want to have the chance to rest, they move under a pine tree, their bodies pressed up against the bark and each other. It was almost like they had their minds on overdrive. The little cubs were the first to sleep, feeling safe in the knowledge their mother is watching them. Nadia wasn't long after, her ears were flicking with almost every sounds. Bird calls raising her head since the sun was still relatively high.

The cub and his mother were holding a silent conversation, deciding that they should try their luck tomorrow in the grassland. There was a very week sense of their being water nearby. His mother reassuring him that they should be fine, only a stealthy predator would be a problem.

It brought about his thoughts of felines chasing him, he squirms a little at the thought. His mind starting to jump at shadows for a few moments before his stressed mind realizes his mistake. Most of those predators he was imagining, were nocturnal. The sun still out was a decent sort of protection. His mind finally slipping into his inner world, bringing with it, a sense of calm.

Their is almost huge amounts of changes, Trees and bushes everywhere, decaying fruit seeming to bring about healthier plants. Something imperceptible working through the elements in his world. This energy seeming to feed those base elements, their is a noticeable increase to size towards the spheres. The roots that had buried deep into the ground were brushing the core, the heat just barely charring roots.

It was almost beautiful the interactions happening, a small, almost imperceptible amount of energy leaked into him. The energy was drunk up by his marrow, not even close to filling up the seemingly thirsty cells.
