Letter 1: Shifting Gaze, Pela Valenteur

------

100th Year of the Siverra Calendar

------

I am Pela Valenteur, the daughter of the king. My kingdom has always been deeply rooted in religion, and the belief that there is something greater than us. I can't help but be fascinated by this concept. The world around us is so intricately crafted, how could there not be a higher power out there?

In our land, the God of Vengeance is Siverra, and the most famous depiction of him is that of a skeleton. Recently, my kingdom erected a statue of him, and I can't help but feel a little obsessed with it. I find myself drawn to it, not quite sure why.

Despite the emphasis on not questioning the divine, I can't help but feel curious. I have had a few personal experiences that have made it hard not to believe. When I was younger, I prayed that I would not be forced into an arranged marriage. Soon after, my intended groom died suddenly. I also asked for a sign from God, and the next day, my father's illness was cured.

But then, the most peculiar experience happened. I saw shadows in my mirrors, and writing appeared on them. It was a language I did not understand at first, but over time, I learned to decipher it. Then, His image flashed in my mirror, and I heard writing in my mind. He told me His name was Siverra, and that I was to become His prophet.

It all sounds preposterous, even to myself. How could I be sure that I had met the true God? He may be something supernatural, but I don't know his origins. I have decided to follow through with his request once, to see if he is righteous, then decide. It is a weighty decision, and the ramifications of it are vast.

Yours truly,

Pela Valenteur.
