The Day of Awakening

Mike got up early today, early enough that the sky was still dark. After preparing for what is going to come today, his family left for the town. At the village center was a portal. This portal connected the village to the town. Due to high mana crystal cost, this portal was activated twice a year, every 6 months, the portal was activated to transport grains, buy supplies and transfer children who were going to awaken on that day.

Awakening was a strange phenomenon. It starts taking place at around 4 am when the spirit energy in the world is at peak. At start it is barely noticeable, but at around noon it picks ups pace. By noon, the foundations for evolution are established, once those are established, the body and the world work together to complete the process of Awakening, this causes immense pain to the body and the soul. Due to existence of Awakening, age of a person is not determined from his date of birth, but instead from the day of Awakening. After all, awakening is a sort of rebirth.

Mike was feeling a bit strange since morning, as if he was changing. He felt that his body was going a metamorphosis right now. Usually, before noon people are unable to sense any changes in their bodies. Feeling a change even before completion of first stage of Awakening was sign of a somewhat lucky encounter. It meant that he was going to get a Special skill!! Mike was happy, he had a reason to be, only 1 in 50,000 get a chance to awaken a special skill.

There exist many different kinds skills, these skills usually aid people in cultivation, or in their daily lives. Common skill are divided into 3 categories. Cultivation skills, Lifestyle Skill, or Unique skill. Cultivation skills, deal with everything related to cultivation. Lifestyle skill are skills which can help in day to day life like <Cleanse> or <Illuminate>. Unique skills are much rarer, these skills are much closer to nature hence difficult to master, these skills cannot be acquired randomly. One must have affinity towards the unique skill he is trying to acquire otherwise these can cause backlash.

Mike right now was on the verge of acquiring a special skill. Special skills are different from normal skills they usually don't have any physical effect. Special skills are naturally awakened, they cannot be learned, hence each special skill is precious. Once someone gets a Special skill, he will inherently learn its name and its purpose, but since these skills deal with mysteries of the world it would be very difficult for others to know if someone has a special skill. The most common Special skill in the world are <Luck>, <Intuition>, <Divination>.

<Luck> improves chances of special encounters, <Intuition> guides people by giving them strange feelings and <Divination> shows the host some glimpses of future through obscure means. These three skills are linked and they seek out each other. The holder of <Luck> will encounter holder of <intuition> and <Divination> due to his good luck. The one with <Intuition> will naturally feel comfortable near <Luck> and <Divination>.

There exist more advanced version of these three skills, and are much rarer <Great Luck>, <Sharp Intuition> and <clairvoyance>. Great luck will result in much better encounters. Sharp intuition would give much clearer picture of dangers and safety. Clairvoyance directly shows some images of the future where some great event is going to occur. People with the <Clairvoyance> are always respected as they can prevent many tragedies.

Also There is extremely rare skill which is very rarely even heard of in the world and its holder almost always rises to the topmost position in the world with great following if they choose to publicize their skill. This skill is <Oracle>. Oracle lets the host see any event in past, present or future at will in exchange of mana. Seeing the future cost lots of mana, but it is different for past and present. The more accessible the knowledge is, the lesser mana it will cost. If very few people have the knowledge, the cost of mana would be astronomical. and if none of the people, animal, birds or trees witnessed the event, <Oracle> would lose half of their lifespan to peek into the event. This all knowing skill thus is greatly revered by all. No one thus speak ill of the oracle, even in the private. The status of the oracle is same as the status of the emperor of the world, with a religion dedicated to her, the moment the oracle announces her return she becomes the most influential person in the world.

<Oracle> could be considered as the extreme form of <Divination>, This led people to hypothesize that there exist a special skill each in the field of luck and intuition. The problem with the hypothesis is that it is very difficult to confirm the hypothesis as both of them can be faked easily and are unlike oracle that can be can be easily confirmed.

There exist some more special skills but no one has complete record of them as the special skills are difficult to confirm.

Mike was very exited, he was going to have a special skill. Special skill are dream of every kid, almost everyone in their life dream of a special skill, every person in his life, has at-least once dreamed of becoming The Oracle, everyone in their lives dreamt of a special skill which is so overpowered that it will give them immense power. Mike now was mature enough that he knew that he would be most probably getting a basic special skill, and if he was extremely lucky he might as well get a rare skill. He wanted the skill <Intuition> as it can help him in times of dangers and increase his chances of survival, He absolutely didn't want <Luck> as luckier you are more special your adventures are and more risky it is. In-fact, it is believed that 20% of people with <Luck> die early because they gain something which they cannot digest themselves, this increases to 40% for people with <Great luck>. Only saving grace for them is that in many cases where they would have died, they are saved because of their great luck.

DING - DONG. DING - DONG. The clock struck 12. This was the start of a bit painful event where the body speeds up the process of awakening also the time when Mike was going to know his special skill.

"WHAT THE FRUCK!!!"

"What happened Mike?" his mother asked panicking.

"IS THIS REAL???? Am I dreaming...Ouch it hurts" Mike, sitting in his hotel room surrounded by his family, right now was pinching his elbow. Although it did already hurt due to awakening, he still pinched himself to confirm if he was still awake.

"Tone down boy, Even I went through Awakening and I know it hurts but not this much that you start cursing in front of your little sister"

"Dad, I am not little anymore I am already 10 today. I am grown up already" his sister protested.

"Right, Right. So why are you acting like this boy? Anything weird or something to worry about?"

"Um Dad, Mom, I originally wanted to surprise you hence I didn't tell you before. uhh, I got a special skill you know"

Dad: "..."(surprised and shocked)

Mom: "..."(surprised and happy)

Sis: "..."(surprised and excited)

Dad: "Are you joking?"

"Nope."

"Are you sure it is a special skill? should I pinch you to check if I am awake...ya I should just pinch you."

"Ouch!! What was that for you little devil...and I pinched myself already... and you should pinch yourself not me!!!"

"Mike are you serious? Did you really get a special skill? Don't tell me its just a joke...Please, don't tell me its a joke."

"Mom I am serious! I got a skill just now!! I knew from today morning that I was going to get a special skill and I awakened it just now..."

"Okay,Okay I get it that you got a special skill and you knew you would get it..." Mike's father interrupted "I even understand us getting so shocked. But. Why are you so shocked? I mean you already knew it right?"

"Uhh, I knew I would get a special skill, but, how should I say it, umm, ya, you see my special skill, is a bit 'special'... " Mike said.

Dad: "..."(surprised and super shocked)

Mom: "..."(surprised and happy and shocked)

Sis: "..."(surprised and super excited)

"So is it special form of <Luck>, <intuition>, or <divination>?"

"Luck... It is..."

"So you got <Great Luck>? amazing!! My bother has great luck...wuhoo."

"..."Mike wanted to add something but giving it deeper thought he decided against it. Afterall, If he really told his family they will surely die of heart attack. Afterall, what he got is not <great Luck> but <Extreme Luck>. Imagine being blessed in everything you do. Anything which could go better will go better. if you want a 6 on a die a six will come. if you want double 6, double 6 will come, if you want 6 five times on a die, 6 will come five times and if your life depended on it, two random shuffled deck of cards will be exactly same(a extremely rare almost impossible thing). You would encounter rarest situations and the rarest chances.

I think I need to keep this a secret otherwise, many wont let me grow up in the outside World.

"Mom, Dad can you keep this a secret please?"
