Shocked, Jing Ling didn't know what to say.
"So, will you inherit my legacy?" repeated Song Xuegang. "I will be passing you all of my techniques and knowledge from my life but will you be able to handle it, the legacy of a master swordsman."
"I..."
Even though Jing Ling had joked around saying she would find a thousand-year-old inheritance of a god realm cultivator she hadn't thought it would actually happen and so quickly! Plus, this wasn't just any thousand-year-old inheritance, it's TEN THOUSAND years old one!
Jing Ling didn't know what she wanted so she kept quiet.
"Why do you hesitate lass? Anyone else would be begging me for my inheritance and accept it without any further thoughts."
"I don't know why I hesitate. Even though I have read so many stories with the same exact scenario, going through it myself is... it's just not the same."
"Take this old man's words of advice lass, take my inheritance. You are no longer in your old world where killing people is shamed. In this world, the strong prey on the weak and if you get killed because you are weak, no one will pity you. Take my inheritance, become strong. You don't need to become the strongest but grow so that you can protect yourself."
These words really hit Jing Ling hard. For the past few days, a small part of her hoped that everything that was happening to her was just a dream. So that one morning she would wake up and find herself back on her hospital bed. However, Song Xuegang's words made Jing Ling realize this wasn't just a dream, she is really in another world now.
"I see. Thank you for your kind words. I have decided, I would like to have your inheritance Master Song." Jing Ling said as she looked at him with a firm gaze.
Master Song looked pleased with Jing Ling's decision and slowly stretched out his hand towards her. As his finger touched Jing Ling's forehead, an enormous amount of information and scenes invaded her mind.
In an old tattered house, a small child is happily running around.
The child is grown up and is preparing to leave home with an excited expression.
"Xuegang pays his respects to Master," says a young man as he kowtows to an elderly woman.
"ROAR" A man beheads a giant white tiger before turning around to look at the maiden he has saved.
Laughing and crying can be heard as a crowd watches a couple. Red tapestry is hanging from the ceiling as the man faces his new wife.
"Waaaaa..." The same man is now holding a newborn child and looks lovingly at his tired wife.
Thunder flashes in the cloudy skies above. Rain pours down hard and the winds drown out all other sounds. "WHY, WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?!" shouts the man as he holds his dead wife and child in his arms.
Scene after scene flashes in Jing Ling's mind until she sees him die in the hands of another cultivator.
Excitement, friendship, love, betrayal, anguish, and regret, all these emotions overwhelmed Jing Ling all at once. "Are these... Are these Song Xuegang's memories?"
"Correct. I had lived a simple life early on but after I had lost my precious wife and child to that hateful man I once trusted, I grew spiteful towards the world and to myself. Why didn't I work harder to train so that I would have had to power to protect my loved ones? So for the rest of my life, I devoted my life to revenge and trained like a madman. However... even after I broke into god realm I was unable to achieve my goal and was killed by his hands. I swore to myself I wouldn't rest until I got my revenge. It may be because of those lingering attachments that my soul was unable to move on and ended up here. But for the last ten thousand years, I have been thinking about my life here on these grassy plains and no longer wish for revenge. He too is probably dead as well..."
Jing Ling couldn't find the right words to say. As the last of the memories enters her head, she couldn't take it anymore and collapses onto the ground.
"Are you alright lass?"
"I'm alright. Its... It's just this is the first time I've seen so much blood and experienced so many people killing each other."
"Mhm... It's a cruel world but such is life. Lass, I hope you will promise me that you will not use my inheritance to bully the weak but protect them instead."
"I promise."
Song Xuegang nodded with a satisfied smile on his face but Jing Ling notices that his ghostly figure is growing increasingly faint.
"Master Song! Why are you disappearing?!"
"I have given you my inheritance, there is nothing left for me in this world. Besides my soul had reached its limit a long time ago."
"But..." Jing Ling starts to tear up.
"Don't cry, lass. I am glad you're the one I met before I left this world. I enjoyed your stories very much. Before I go, let me warn you that my techniques are too strong for your body to handle right now. I forbid you to attempt any of the moves until you have broken through into martial realm. Now head back and live out your life to the fullest..."
When Song Xuegang's soul disappeared, a bright light flashed, blinding Jing Ling and she found herself once again looking at a sphere. However, instead of a red marble-sized sphere, Jing Ling found herself in front of an enormous bright violet sphere. As it continued to absorb the Qi around it, the sphere evolved into an even darker shade of violet.
