I believe it should be elaborated further in the first 10 insufferable chapters but then again i don't remember anything from that period as all was immensely fast paced and poorly thought out

I'll explain all that, don't worry. And the reason it can turn into a dog is because of it's vampire species which yeah, as you said is in the game. Even with all the plot armor and I gave the main character, there was no way he was beating most of the other species even with the explanation I'll give. Trust the process.
