How can that be considered superficial? She is the protagonist’s grandmother, one of the most influential women in Westeros. Countless laws have been enacted and repealed by her. Even the First Night law was repealed by her. Wherever Alysanne went, she would organize a meeting with the lords’ wives and daughters. For that reason alone, one could say she has great influence in the realm. And she is an ally of the protagonist, especially in the coming chapters. I still don’t understand how that’s superficial. Especially given her power.

However, I'd like to know which book you're talking about. My knowledge of Valyria comes from other fanfics on the archive.
