But that being said the first 60 chapters ish , feel a bit uneven , but I think the author has found his footing. It’s much better in the current chapters. The pacing is fast in terms of events, but slow in terms of emotional/character development. I also think that there’s a a lack of aftermath where we move from one major event to another before fully processing the previous one. The action sequences are brutal easy to imagine and quite engaging. The world building quite good. It has painted out a world with mystery and instability. But could be fleshed into a richer world. I hope that this story fleshes out the idea that “ the dream of Rome has been forgotten” This idea that the fall of the great city is eminent, power hungry villains and a society steeped in corruption. The feeling that something fundamental has been broken , some deeper chaos that has steeped into the culture , into a state of decay that not just allows harmful forces to flourish, but it also significantly complicates a righteous path. Something more substantial than a gladiator power fantasy. I see it!!! Something that is right up there with shadow slave. And other top tier webnovels. Keep going author!!

This novel has a lot going for it. The world building, and tension escalation / pay off , are better than average. The kingdom feels like it is actually growing, and the inventions feel like they have impact. The biggest weakness is the prose. This novel relies far too heavily on telling rather than showing. characters are angry, afraid, or excited, and the narration often tells us instead of letting us see it through their actions. Show, don’t tell is one of the rules of fiction. the writing feels close to 90% telling and 10% showing. A good read if you’re looking for something to pass a time, but don’t expect a gripping tale.
