Something terrible was about to happen to him, to the point where he lost his sanity. So, don't expect a controlled protagonist like he is now, but a chaotic and manipulative protagonist. "The gods will not fear me because I am one of them, but rather because I am only a man. Even a simple ant, upon discovering certain terrible secrets of the reality in which it lives, becomes desperate and does everything to survive, even if it has to create machines and beings so powerful that they can hunt and overthrow the very gods of the heavens."
