well the thing is mahoraga can only adapt to attack after getting hit a few times but ergo on the other hand once he got killed he immediately evolved, and gained immunity to that attack, so if you tried to do what sukuna did to mahoraga to ergo you have to make sure you completely destroy ergo cause unlike mahoraga there is no second chance in using the same attack if you failed to kill him
