Sorry! I'm slower than I would like when it comes to writing sometimes...

As in sad, it just personally feels like a perfect storm to mess me up so I think I'm gonna work on it in bursts. Also, with the chapter length thing, I usually just write until I think the chapter is in a decent place so I doubt I'll change it. Funnily enough, I think it'd be more annoying to make it shorter after thinking about it

So he can see something called the threads of fate, it is showcased a bit more in chapter 3 (and later on too). Basically he can see the karma of someone by using it, and the blood's taste is affected by it. The taste basically just confirms it for him, hope this clears it up :)
