I don't know what kind of stories you read, but I suggest not setting your expectations on stories too much (fanfiction or original). It's the best way of disappointing yourself.

And what's wrong with being 5'9? Height isn't everything, you know. Just look at Robert Downey Jr, Tom Holland, Kendrick Lamar, or Tom Cruise. You don't see them being bothered by it, and I find it strange that people make a big deal about trivial things. And it isn't like the MC will stay at 5'9 forever. There's a thing called 'growth'. He's still young, so he will grow taller as time pass.
