Everything about the book was fantastic. Most of the time i was in awe of the character of Fang Yuan. This is probably the novel with some of the best worldbuilding I have ever seen. I personally know of no novel that is comparable including all the xianxia I have read. The world revolves around using gu insects by providing them essence which a human can produce within their 'aperture'. There's a lot of depth to the magic system. Having more Gu insects isn't better as they need to be fed with rare ingredients or they die. There are some born with exceptional talent but it's not always a good thing. Inborn talent generally isn't really important. Plotting is ingrained within everyone's bones. Everybody is out for themselves or their clans/sect. Nobody can really be called stupid in this novel. MC is a time traveler and a complete psychopath with his entire being focused on his goal which is 'eternal life'. Anything and everything can and will be sacrificed for his objectives. Without spoiling anything, time traveling has immense cost and is relatively balanced. The novel starts with him returning back to his childhood. Also we do get snippets of his previous life along the way, helping us understand why he's become a character with no morals. Every volume end with huge fireworks, I personally think volume 2 has one of the best endings I've ever read.
