Chapter 33

Bryan

sighed to himself and took a second run at fighting the grimace. Presumably the

customers around Soho got the joke better than he did. He knew he wasn’t

brilliant at popular culture. Dan had always enjoyed telling him he was stuck

in the last century. Bryan couldn’t remember when that had turned from being a

fond tease to a bitter criticism.

“Everything

okay, sir?”

Bryan

glanced up and managed a polite smile of assent to the bright, helpful

assistant. Bryan knew Lee quite well, of course. The blond young man always

seemed to be on duty, though if anyone knew how much—or how little—the business

allowed for staff costs, it’d be Bryan. As their accountant, he was only too

well aware of the tight budget. The “sir” was a nice touch, too, even though

Lee knew his name. Bryan tried not to lay too much store on the resonance the

word set up in him.

watched Lee bustle around the tables, wiping the surfaces and rearranging paper
