City Escapade

The room was filled with wraiths.

They resembled humans with missing patches of skin and hollow eyes.

They looked so profane that Cain immediately got a dark look on his face.

Summoning the bow again, Cain shot multiple arrows at them in which they passed through them.

'This doesn't look like a winning battle'.

Scanning the room, he noticed lit candles in the room.

He quickly put out each one and darkened the room.

'Let's see if this will work'.

Adjusting his eyes to the darkness, he saw a fire in the very being of the wraiths.

Multiple arrows were fired and each one hit the designated target.

This time however, they were effective as the wraiths fell to the ground.

Moving to another room, Cain noticed that there wasn't anything odd about it.

I'll use this room as a resting spot.

Using the rune archive, he observed the layout of the cathedral.

He was located in the outermost room away from the gateway.

Formulating scenarios, he decided in a way to get past the 'preserver' to enter the gateway.

The preserver was a archer, although it didn't resemble a human.

It stood about 6 feet tall and had a 'warai hannya mask'.

It stood lifelessly in the middle of the room as though nothing could threaten it's existence.

Lying on the ground, Cain decided it would be best if he took a nap.

He summoned his sword and lay it on his chest, as he dozed off.

Waking up, Cain rubbed his eyes and thought about his life so far.

From the age of six, he was sent to this desolate and forsaken place.

He constantly had to forage and conceal himself from the creatures that lurked in the city.

There were those that were weaker than him and those that were stronger.

'Much stronger'.

It was a predator and prey relationship.

It was also the time when he had to compress his humanity and do anything to live.

Cutting off dregs of the past, Cain got up and stretched his body.

He had a placid expression on his face, as he knew what he had to do.

Walking into the main room, multiple wraiths appeared to stop Cain.

He once again put out the candles and rushed towards them.

Swinging his sword throughout the air, he made multiple arches and felled the wraiths one by one.

Panting heavily, Cain summoned the bow and shot arrows into the air.

The arrows fell on the wraiths to confirm they were dead.

Entering the next room, an arrow cut through the air and ripped cain's hand off the socket.

Cain stifled the scream and leaped outside of the room.

He hid behind the wall, and bandaged the stump where his hand previously was.

He peeked beside the wall and noticed the preserver standing lifelessly once again.

He decided it would be best to sneak through the sides of the room.

Before he could enter the room again, an arrow was shot and Cain narrowly avoided it.

The arrow left a series of holes and indents on the ground as it flew past.

Although this was not for naught, as he noticed the gateway behind the archer.

And if what the 'complex' said is true, then I'll have to wait this out.

Cain leaned on the side of the wall and caught his breath.

Looking at his arm he said, 'At least the bleeding has stopped'.

Hours passed as Cain was waiting for the gateway to come to life.

Hearing a whirring sound inside the room, Cain got up with a dark look on his face and said 'Let's try this again'.

He rushed into the room, this time however sneaking on the corners of the room.

Numerous arrows were fired at him, but he continued running.

Reaching within a few metres of the gateway, Cain suddenly fell.

It was as though a concealed presence was holding him down.

Feeling his body being pulled apart, Cain did nothing but scream as he was dismembered.

Cain's lifeforce wasn't completely out, as he noticed the wraiths substance being added to his.

This time however his body was in autopilot and operated in a inhumane way.

It ran on all fours as an effort to make it towards the gateway.

The arrows were once again shot towards him, but passed through his body.

He ran passed the preserver and shuddered at its 'face'.

It's eye sockets were empty and it's face looked to be made by something unpleasant.

Activating the gateway, Cain swore that he wouldn't return to this place.
