Chapter 1Chapter 1: Murderous glare

"I was just a junior in high school when I first laid eyes on Romeo Smit. His chiseled features, piercing gaze, and effortless charm left me breathless. As the most handsome boy in school, he seemed untouchable, especially to someone like me from a humble background.

Romeo's calm and cold demeanor only added to his allure. His wealth and status made him even more intimidating. I felt like an invisible speck compared to his grandeur.

Despite our differences, I couldn't help but steal glances at him. His indifference towards others only made me more curious. What lay beneath his frosty exterior? Was there warmth hidden beneath?

One day, our paths crossed in the library. He accidentally dropped his book, and I picked it up. Our eyes met for a fleeting moment. Time froze.

'Thank you,' he said, his voice low and smooth.

I smiled, feeling my heart race. 'You're welcome.'

That brief exchange sparked something within me. I began to wonder if there was more to Romeo Smit than met the eye."

A few weeks later

As Romeo Smit and his friends sauntered into the school, the atmosphere shifted. The air seemed to vibrate with their confidence and charm.

Priscilla, a new girl, fluttered around, boasting about their families' connections and claiming him as hers. Her words dripped with possessiveness, making the other girls green with envy. I felt very annoyed and angry because of this busting fly. I felt heartbroken and sad thinking of what if what she is saying is true.

My heart skipped a beat as I gazed at Romeo from afar, my perch upstairs offering a perfect view. His breathtaking appearance left me breathless. His flawless, porcelain-like skin glowed in the morning light, accentuating his chiseled features. His slender yet athletic build commanded attention, and his neatly trimmed black hair framed his face to perfection.

Those piercing eyes, like sapphires shining bright, seemed to see right through me. His straight nose and full lips added to his irresistible allure. Every detail, every gesture, screamed perfection. My heart raced, and my palms grew sweaty as I drank in the sight of him.

Priscilla's laughter echoed through the hallway, snapping me back to reality. I felt a pang of jealousy, wondering if she truly knew Romeo, if she understood the depths of his heart. But as their interactions revealed a familiarity, my doubts grew.

Romeo's gaze swept the area, his eyes locking onto mine for a fleeting moment. Time froze. Did he see me? Did he sense my admiration? My heart fluttered at the possibility.

Priscilla approached Romeo to justify her claims, a triumphant smile plastered on her face, I prepared for the worst.

"Hey, Romeo!" she chimed, expecting a warm reception.

But Romeo didn't even break stride.

He walked past her, his gaze fixed ahead, ignoring her existence.

I couldn't believe it.

My heart, once heavy with doubt, now swelled with hope.

Priscilla's face fell, her smile crumbling.

The students exchanged skeptical glances.

Some snickered.

I burst out laughing, unable to contain my joy.

My laughter echoed through the hallway.

I doubled over, tears streaming down my face.

My friend kicked me, snapping me back to reality.

"What's wrong?" I asked, still chuckling.

My friend whispered, "Everyone's staring at you."

I glanced around, mortified.

Romeo's piercing eyes met mine.

Shivers ran down my spine.

His friends' curious gazes joined the mix.

Priscilla's murderous glare burned into me.

"Some of you might not believe it," she spat, "but Romeo and I... we have a history."

Her words trailed off as Romeo disappeared from view.

The students murmured.

Some believed Priscilla.

Others doubted.

I grabbed my friend's hand.

"Let's get out of here," I whispered.

We fled the scene.

Leaving Priscilla's anger.

Romeo's mysterious smile.

And the whispers.

As we escaped into the classroom, my friend asked, "What's so funny?"

"Romeo ignoring Priscilla," I whispered, still grinning.

My friend raised an eyebrow. "Maybe he's not into her."

I shrugged, feeling a spark of hope.

Throughout the day, whispers circulated about Romeo and Priscilla's exchange. Some believed they were secretly together; others doubted it.

During lunch, I spotted Romeo sitting alone on the rooftop. My heart skipped a beat. Should I approach him? who will dare I still want to leave.

Priscilla stormed up to me during break, her eyes blazing. "You think it's funny, huh? Laughing at me like that?"

I stood my ground, trying to appear calm. "I wasn't laughing at you, Priscilla. It was just... unexpected."

"Unexpected?" Priscilla's voice rose. "You think Romeo ignoring me is funny?"

I shook my head. "No, I just—"

"Save it," Priscilla snapped. "You're just jealous. Romeo and I have a connection. You'll never understand."

Rumors began spreading like wildfire:

"Romeo and Priscilla are secretly dating!"

"No way, Romeo hates her!"

"Priscilla's just using Romeo for status!"

Students whispered, speculating, and analyzing every interaction between Romeo and Priscilla.

During class, I caught Romeo glancing at me, from the next building his expression unreadable. My heart skipped a beat.

during school dismissal

Priscilla's friends closed in, their designer-clad bodies forming a menacing circle around me. I stood tall, trying to hide my trembling.

"You think you're worthy of Romeo's attention?" one of them sneered. "You're just a poor, pathetic girl from the wrong side of town."

Their laughter cut deep, but I refused to back down.

"At least I don't need to buy friends," I retorted, meeting Priscilla's glare. and follow Romeo around like a house fly.

One of her friends stepped forward, hand raised. But before she could strike, a voice echoed through the hallway.

"Enough."

Chris authoritative tone sent Priscilla's friends scattering. He strode toward us, his eyes locked on Priscilla.

Chris, Romeo's friend, stepped in, his eyes flashing with anger. "Back off, Priscilla. Leave her alone."

Priscilla's friends hesitated, then followed Priscilla's lead, glaring at me before stalking away.

Chris turned to me. "You okay?"

I nodded, still shaken.

"Thanks," I said, meaning it.

I turned to thank Chris again, but he interrupted me. "Don't thank me, thank him... later." He nodded toward the corner.

My gaze followed his gesture, and my heart skipped a beat. Romeo stood leaning against the wall, watching me with an intense gaze.

Our eyes locked, and time froze.

Chris's voice faded into the background as I stared into Romeo's piercing eyes.

"Later," Chris repeated, before walking away.

Romeo's gaze never wavered, his expression unreadable.

My cheeks flushed, and I looked away, my heart racing.

Was Romeo watching me?

Why?

Eira Kingston, a feared assassin, never imagined that death would lead her to transmigrate into the body of Ephyra Allen, the disgraced first daughter of the once-powerful Allen family. Despite being the legitimate daughter, she was labeled a bastard, shunned by all, and overshadowed by her scheming stepsister, who had stolen the love of her father and her betrothed. To make matters worse, the wealth and status the Allen family enjoyed were all thanks to Ephyra’s late mother, and the only reason she hadn’t been discarded entirely was due to her mother’s inheritance, locked away until she turned eighteen. But Eira wasn’t one to be defeated by circumstances. If she was going to live Ephyra’s life, she would do so on her own terms. She would destroy those who had caused Ephyra pain, claim the inheritance that was rightfully hers, and find out who was behind her own death. Because if there was one thing Eira knew how to do well, it was to survive—and make her enemies pay. However, being a high-schooler with nothing to her name wasn’t enough. As Ephyra, she’s powerless, but as an assassin, she’s lethal. Still, even that wasn't enough until she became the contracted wife of Lyle Aelion—a powerful, enigmatic figure in the business world with a secret illness. And it turns out, the only thing that can relieve him is her scent.
