The Unexpected Challenge (Part-1)

After all the groups were sorted out, Kizmel sensei made a few more announcements about the event that will take place in future and how the results will completely depend on performance of the pair. The closest event that was announced today was the 1st periodicals, in simple words, a class test. Not worthy of much attention if you ask me. After Kizmel sensei was done, she said our luggage will be transported to the dorm lobby by the evening, apparently some stuff happened and the delivery got delayed.

Now that the first day of school was over, what do I do now? Most of the students were heading to the school cafeteria, at least that's what I heard.

"Do you want to grab a bite?"

The girl sitting next to me asked in her oh-so-sweet voice. It's was obviously Koharu. After we formed a pair she just came and sat next to me as naturally as it could be.

"Sure, I was feeling a bit of hunger too." I replied.

She didn't knew anyone in this class besides me (probably) and same goes for me too, that's the reason we went to get some food together.

"By the way, what do you think of Kizmel sensei? She's really cute right?"

The word I'd use for her would be dignified and elegant. I wonder how she'd react if some student called her cute, now that I think about it carefully, her elvish ears sure are cute. Hmmm. I approve of it.

"I know right, she is indeed cute and her explanations were easy to understand too."

"Yeah!" As if my reply energised her, she raised her volume, "I wonder what other kinds of teachers we'll have."

We made our way to the cafeteria and settled on the empty table near the counter, it'll be easier to carry the food from the counter now, how lucky.

"What would you like to eat?" I asked.

"Hmm... let me check on the menu, you do so too."

"Okay..."

She was surprisingly commanding, at least her tone was.

As I scanned through the menu, only the names of dishes, I found something strange in it. Burgers? Pizzas? Are they supposed to add these stuff in the school cafeteria menu?

Inside the menu, I found various variety of dishes ranging from Italian Cuisine to Japanese ones. Heck, they even had ramen. This school was far better than I thought it was, only the food here is enough to change my opinion. But this might just be for show and perhaps the quality is bad? Well, I can only find out if I order one and to be honest, I wasn't feeling much hungry so I'll just get something simple to eat. The testing of the taste will be done some other day.

"They really have a big menu right? So many dishes." I tried to start a conversation again.

But unlike the other times, she only gave a small "Yeah..." with her eyes fixed on the menu.

Maybe she's one of those people who are really careful about their diet? Or maybe she's just being indecisive.

After waiting a minute more, she made a satisfied smug and moved her eyes from the menu.

"Ok, I've decided, you're done too?" She asked.

"Yeah, a few seconds ago.. Should we go order?"

"Right... You hold the fort here, I'll go order the food." She smiled gently and told me what to do.

Well, it was obvious that one will have to stay here to save our table, I should have thought so earlier.

After I nodded to her question, she asked again.

"What's your order?"

"Udon... 1 plate."

"Right, just wait a minute, I'll be back."

My cheeks turned red, was it okay to order Udon? It wasn't weird right? Right?

In any case, sitting on the chair I looked through the whole Cafeteria. Big wasn't the word that could describe it, we had more than 100 tables here, all the 1st year students could come and sit here and half of the tables will still be free.

As I was marveling the cafeteria, I saw Koharu giving the order at the counter. If I had my mobile right now, I'd have probably been fiddling with it.

*sigh*

I noticed that small sigh which came from the table right next to the one I was sitting on. The silver hair girl I saw this morning was sitting there, alone. She gave off the cool beauty aura, but her twin tails didn't really helped it. Her blue eyes, half closed were gazing in distance and not at the food she was eating. Someone was really bored.

Koharu approached the table I was sitting at, balancing both the plates in her hands. I got up and took my order from her.

She got back really fast, was the food prepared already before we ordered? It's not spoiled, is it?

Koharu slumped down on her chair like some old granny and let out a sigh. Her order was a small cheese burger.

"Finally something to eat, I was really getting hungry!"

"Do you always have food around this time?" I asked.

"An hour later but yeah, I eat less in morning." She replied while munching on her Burger.

I started eating my Udon too.

"By the way, what should we do next? Should we go collect our stuff?" Koharu looked up at me, away from her burger.

"Let's check out our room first, after that, we can visit the lobby to collect our belongings."

"Yeah, first time I'll share my room with a friend." She smiled, so we are friends? That's a good thing, I won't have to put much effort in pleasing her.

"Me too!" I replied, as cheerfully as I could.

After we were done, we left for the dormitories. It was evening, the setting sun painted the whole sky in the mixture of orange and red. The footpath we were walking on was pretty empty, I could see only 2 more students walking ahead of us.

We kept talking about small stuff, like our daily activities and all. I feel that my highschool life won't be as bad as I expected.

As we were passing by the big field, which was probably used for sports purpose, I noticed a small group of girls gathered. They seemed to be talking loudly, maybe a small quarrel broke out. I just ignored it and moved on.

"Hey look, what do you think is happening there?"

"They are talking really loud, probably a small fight broke out?"

"Let's go check it out for ourselves." Koharu suggested.

Great. I really have a bad feeling about this. I don't really like getting involved in other's matters.

"Okay, let's see."
