CHAPTER ONE

"What do you mean we're moving to Georgia?!" Mandy shrieked as she looked at her parents with wide eyes. Gobi sighed and rubbed his head while taking another sip of coffee. He sent a pleading look to his wife, who was making breakfast. Felicia saw the look and rolled her eyes before turning to their daughter. Gabi smiled and said, "You owe me a lot, Gobi." Felicia's mind connected with his, but her eyes were still on their daughter. Oh, he said, "I have every intention of paying you back." He looked at her body.

Felicia shook her head and smiled in a sarcastic way. Mandy looked at her for a long time. "Listen, honey, things have changed since your powers woke up recently." Felicia lowered the stove a bit and put her hands together. Mandy's eyebrow went up in surprise. Felicia said, "You're the first werewolf who didn't get their powers until they were sixteen." "It's never happened before. Wolves are born with their abilities, but since you're different, we don't know what to expect. We don't know if your strength is stronger or weaker than the generation before you. Plus, you got kicked out of school."

"It wasn't my fault, mom!" Mandy said as she tucked a strand of her brown hair behind her ear. Her brown eyes were filled with shame. "That pervert deserved to get caught after making such sexist comments. He should have kept his eyes on something else."

"You just showed me that I was right," Felicia said as she pinched the bridge of her nose and shut her eyes tightly. "Yes, I know how men sometimes think. They have a tendency to think with their third leg every now and then..." Felicia stopped when she saw Gobi frown at her comment. She gave him a secret wink.

"But hitting his head against a locker and sending him straight to the hospital wasn't really going to solve anything, was it?" Felicia asked her daughter. "Kind of," replied Mandy. "Next time, at least, he would watch what he said." "Mandy," said Felicia with a stern look. "My point is that your actions came from your newly awakened powers. What you did with that young man was a choice made by the wolf in you."

"Well, she's telling the truth. "That pig is lucky to be alive at all," Mandy's wolf said. Mandy told her, "You're not helping." This is the best choice for you,. In the city, there are more people like us. We don't even have a pack yet, so keep that in mind. Felicia said, "Our kind is spread out across the country, and I think this is a chance to bring us together." Gabi was the last to speak. "My brother has a friend who is a doctor," she said. He can look at you and see if we should be worried about anything."

Mandy didn't say anything for a while. She shifted her weight from foot to foot, trying to figure out what was going on. Ever since she was born and her parents told her about her powers, she didn't believe them. She never showed any signs of being a werewolf, much to their worry. She thought she was just like everyone else. But recently, when her powers came back and the signs showed, her parents were happy. But then came the sudden aggression and then a change in her appearance. "What about the people I know? What's up with Nat? "Mandy asked, giving her parents a pleading look to try to get them to change their minds.

Gabi stared at his daughter as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Mandy sighed, hung her head low, and walked slowly out of the kitchen. Felicia called after her daughter as she went around the corner, saying, "Don't be so sad, honey." "I think you'll enjoy this new place... as well as the school." Mandy thought, "Yeah, right," and rolled her eyes. Her wolf agreed with her.

She went straight up the stairs to her room and flopped down on the bed with a long sigh. How did everything go so wrong so quickly? Why did they have to move? Her mother had told her everything, but she still didn't understand. Maybe she just didn't want to listen. Her inner wolf was doing everything it could to stop her from listening, and it took a lot of willpower to stop it.

Mandy called her number and waited. After a few rings, she heard a click that meant someone was picking up. "Hey, girlfriend!

Nat asked in a high-pitched voice, "What's up? I really missed how sassy you were at school. It's just no longer the same. How are things with you? "

"Hey, Nat," Mandy said in a low voice. "Mandy?

"Nat's voice dropped an octave, which was a clear sign of worry. "What's wrong? You sound like someone else." "There's news, Nat."

"Good or bad? "

"Bad. Extremely bad."

There was a short pause on the other end, and Mandy could hear her friend's fast breathing. The tension was easing "Is it related to what went on at school? "Nat asked at last.

Mandy said, "Yes, I'm moving." "Like to get out of here?

"Mandy could hear her friend's surprise in the way she spoke.

"Yes," she said. "Where's."

"Georgia."

"Why? "

Mandy stopped and thought about how she could tell her friend about her new abilities. There were two problems with that idea.

One: No matter how much Mandy loved her friend Nat, she couldn't keep her mouth shut.

Two: Even if Nat managed to keep it a secret, paranoia could eventually set in and drive a wedge between them. Mandy pulled at her hair in frustration. Everything was so annoying!

She only told half the truth when she said, "My parents think I might do better if I moved."

Nat sighed and said, "I can't believe this." Her voice was shaking "That's not right. Can't you change their minds? "

"You know how my parents are with big decisions," Mandy said, rolling her eyes. "Especially my mom." "Gosh. I've never had anything worse happen to me than this "Nat almost cried.

"Girl, come on. Don't act that way. We can always talk to each other and video chat."

"That doesn't mean it'll stay the same." "I know. I will do my best to stay in touch. Nat, I'm so sorry."

"Don't blame yourself, girlfriend." "Technically, it is," the wolf inside Mandy said with a grin.

"And you're the good guy? You do realize this is partly your fault, don't you?" Mandy growled. "Keep talking and stop eating meat for a month." Her wolf whimpered and went quiet. "Yeah, that's what I thought, too," Mandy said with a smile.

"Are you there, Mandy? "The voice of Nat brought her back to the real world.

"Oh.. Yeah, I'm still around "She answered. "I was saying that Alex is going to pop a vein when he hears this. You know that he likes you "Nat said, and Mandy could hear a smile in the way she spoke.

Mandy grunted, "Well, that's too bad for him." "Girl, get it together. I don't understand why you always ignore him."

"That's not it. Alex is very nice, but that's about it. I can't see him as anything but a friend. I just don't think we belong together." "Well, if you say so. I'm going to start working on my project. When do you plan to move? "

"Not sure. My parents haven't told me yet. I know it's coming though." On the other end, there was a long sigh. Nat said, "I'm just going to try to figure out what's going on. I'll see you tomorrow after school."

Mandy said, "I'll be ready for you." "Bye, girlfriend. Be careful."

"You too." Mandy hung up the phone and threw it away.

"Dinner is ready, Mandy!

"She heard her mother calling from the bottom of the stairs. "Yes! At last! "She could feel how excited her wolf was.

She shook her head and got out of bed, thinking about the new adventure she was about to go on. For the first time in a very long time, she didn't want bacon or sausages.
