You are next

It was a cold and quiet Saturday where it felt like almost everybody in this part of the world had gone extinct. That's how it's been for the past 7 months, rumors have it that whenever anyone comes into that town, they leave the next morning.

The only person who has been in that town for years unending was Shin Suri, a 20-year-old young lady who was currently sitting under a very big fig tree whose air was the only thing that could be heard faintly.

Two leaves fell on her should at once. She picked them up, looked at them so intensely, and sighed "haaa mom, dad it's another year again, I've been researching and trying to know the people who did this to you but I guess I won't be able to find it out anytime soon".

Flashback to 5 years ago.

"Mom, Dad I'm home, Mrs. Chu asked me to give this to you". She sat on the dining chair with her uniform still on and tried to look at what the old woman had offered them.

"Waaaa it's so hot" sniffing out the aroma she said, "this will be nice while hot". Then she looked around but still no traces of her parents. "Mom, dad".

She went upstairs since the walls were soundproof, she couldn't hear anything that was going on inside.

Just as she got to her parents' door, the door was torn apart with a body flying right out of it.

Shin Suri was so scared to the point that she lost her voice. She was trembling all over when the person who had been flung out of the room called her, "Su....Suri".

'I know that voice I'm 100 percent sure I know that voice'. With a trembling body, she turned to look at the almost lifeless person on the floor.

It was her mother. Without thinking twice she ran towards her mom within a split second, she looked into the room and saw her dad covered with blood and a man that had his back against her but a mark was seen on the back of his head.

Her mom slipped something inside her pocket and pushed her with all the strength she could muster.

"Run...ple..please run".

Shin Suri was reluctant but when the man turned around to see her, she felt the entire hair on her body stand and she ran as fast as her legs could carry her.

The poor girl didn't even have the time to say her goodbyes.

She hid in a secret spot, which was inside a fig tree. She remained there for two whole days and when the people of the small town saw her, she had already passed out dues to exhaustion.

Shin Suri was taken to the hospital for treatment and she only woke up after a week.

When she decided to go back home, she noticed people were looking at her. Some with pity and others with disgust.

When she got to the place where her home was supposed to be, she saw it was no longer there. Her house had been destroyed with her parents in it.

"No no no no no no this can't be it, NOOOO".

She fell to the ground and wailed so much, just then, Mrs. Chu came over and embraced her, telling her that everything would be alright.

Shin Suri had nowhere to go so Mrs. Chu took her in. It didn't take long for bad luck to find her though.

On a rainy day, it wasn't night yet but the whole place was dark because of the weather. Shin Suri was sleeping when she suddenly heard a loud noise coming from the adjacent room where Mrs. Chu was sleeping.

She rushed out of her room to check on Mrs. Chu but when she got in, she noticed Mrs. Chu was sitting on a chair, looking at the view outside.

"Mrs. Chu, are you okay, I heard a noise from your room". She asked but didn't get a response.

She went closed and for some reason, she was getting more cold by the minute. "Mrs. Chu?" She touched her shoulders just to fill the hot liquid on her palm and just then, thunder struck and she saw Mrs. Chu's face properly.

She gasped as she saw the bullet right in the middle of her head with her eye wide open.

She couldn't handle it so she passed out again.

The next morning, Mrs. Chu's daughter came to give her some foodstuffs and also give Shin Suri some clothes as well.

"Mom, Mom" she called a few times but no response. She decided to go into her room to check up on her. She was on a call with her husband explaining that she had arrived safely but as soon as she opened the door, the phone fell from her hand and she screamed.

A short while later, an ambulance arrived and took both of them to the hospital.

"The girl is alive but I'm sorry there is nothing we can do for your mother, take heart". The woman fell to the ground crying so bitterly.

When Shin Suri woke up, she noticed she was in an unfamiliar place but when her eye got clearer, she realized she was in the hospital and then reality dawned on her. She abruptly stood up, "Mrs. Chu".

She ran out of the room to check what room Mrs. Chu would have been taken to but just outside her door, Mrs. Chu's daughter was standing with an expression on her face that showed pain, disgust, hatred, and anger.

Without hesitation, she gave Shin Suri a dirty slap on the face making her face go from white to red in split seconds. "Aunty....".

"Shut it, Shin Suri, I'm not your aunty. If not for you and your bad luck, my mother would still be alive". She paused for a while not wanting to break down. "What people said about you is true, you are nothing but a witch who just goes around killing everyone around her".

Aunty Chu turned her back to leave when Shin Suri held her by the leg while kneeling down. "Can you just punish me instead or better still, can you kill me please" she said while silent tears were falling from her eyes.

Aunty Chu took her leg away from her grasp and said while still backing her, "leave this place and go live your life. This is the last type of favor I can do for you".

She said this and left, leaving the poor innocent girl all alone in that long hallway.

Ring ring.

Shin Suri's phone rang bringing her back to reality. She knew no one knew her number and she only had a phone for research and online schooling so who could be calling her.

As soon as she picked up the call, she heard a deep bold voice on the other side of the phone.

"Hello, Shin Suri...you are next".
