Growing Suspicions

There was a knock on the door. Elijah wakes up and rubs his eyes. Who could it be at this time? he wonders. He gets off the bed and walks towards the door. He opens the door and almost falls down in shock.

He could not believe who was standing in front of him. It was his family, his father, mother, and sister, Farah. Elijah was completely paralyzed. He didn't know what to say at all.

"Hi Elijah, how are you doing?" his father asks in a calm tone which completely shocked Elijah.

"Hello father, I'm fine I guess. Come on in" says Elijah and welcomes everyone in.

"Wow, this is quite a spacious apartment," says his mother.

Elijah's parents have never been to his house except for his sister, Farah. She was the only one who still cared about Elijah, she used to visit Elijah and Kira quite often. Farah and Kira had grown really close, Farah became like a sister to Kira.

"Yeah, it is. What brought you guys here? I mean I'm thrilled that you came to meet me after all these years, but what changed your mind?" asks Elijah.

"Well, we heard the news about Kira. Even though you guys got married against our will, we still cared for that girl. I remember when she was a little girl, and you both went to high school. We came to check up on you, how are you doing?" asks his father in a worried tone.

Elijah was silent for a long time, little drops of water roll down his cheek. His mother gets out of her seat and hugs Elijah.

"It was such a shock to me, I couldn't believe what happened. She made such a rash decision out of nowhere" says Elijah.

"Well, do you know how it happened?" asks his mother.

"We went to our cabin for the weekend. I woke up the next day and found her missing. Then I found her in the yard, covered in blood. Apparently, she used one of the hunting guns to kill herself" says Elijah, chills ran down his spine just thinking about it.

" I just never want to relive it. The moment, when I was holding her in my hands... her breathless, ice-cold body ..." Elijah trails off. He covers his face in his hands and sobs softly.

"Oh my god, that is just so horrible. Look, Elijah, you have suffered enough. Why are you still here, pack your bags and come with us. Let's go back home" says his father in a sweet tone. His voice reminds Elijah of the old days. Oh, how much he loved his father.

"Okay father, I'll come. I'll pack everything and meet you guys there tomorrow," says Elijah.

"Okay, then we'll get going. Take care Elijah" says his mother.

Elijah glances at Farah, who was extremely quiet this whole time. She did not speak a word. She let out a few tears when Kira's name was mentioned but other than that, she was still as a rock. He goes near her and puts his arms around her shoulders. Farah shrugs it off and shoots him a disgusted look.

"What happened Farah? Why are you being so rude to me?" asks Elijah. Farah was acting in such a weird way, she has never been like this. Elijah and Farah have always been close to each other.

"Um, nothing. It's just been a long time since I saw you, it will take me some time to get adjusted to you again. Don't take it in the wrong way" says Farah.

Elijah somehow knew that was not the reason, yet he planned to go along.

"Okay, that's understandable. I'll see you tomorrow," says Elijah, and opens his arms, hoping Farah would hug him. Farah stares at his open arms, she understands the gesture, yet turns and leaves with her parents. Elijah was shaken by her behavior. He was determined to find out what was going on with her.

The next day, Elijah arrives at his parents' house. A smile grows on his face as he thinks about the old times. How his father would chase him around the house trying to catch him and how his mother would play hide & seek with him and Farah.

He rings the bell. Farah opens the door. She had an oversized yellow hoodie and her favorite headphones on. Elijah could hear the music blasting.

"Hello, Farah! Good morning," says Elijah in a happy and excited tone.

"Good morning" mutters Farah under her breath and goes back to her bedroom. His mother and father welcome him into the house.

"Well son, you know which room is yours. We have cleaned it just for you. Re-freshen up and come down, we'll eat together" his father says.

He walks up the stairs, his bedroom was the one next to Farah's. Great, now I have to walk past her room he thinks.

Farah's bedroom door was open, and Elijah peeks in. He hears the shower turn on in the bathroom.

Oh, sounds like she is in the bathroom. Let me just have a quick look in her room, just to see what it is she is hiding thinks Elijah, and enters Farah's room.

He starts checking everywhere. He doesn't find anything suspicious, except for a bunch of BTSmerch and posters. But that was a usual thing, Elijah knows Farah loves BTS. Suddenly his eyes fix on the closet towards the far right.

He slowly opens it, it was filled with a bunch of clothes. He sees a white bag hiding quite far inside the closet. He reaches and grabs it out. Elijah opens the bag and finds a black hoodie.

Suddenly the bathroom door opens and Farah comes out. She was in shock to see Elijah in her room.

"What are you doing here? Do you not know anything about privacy?" she asks in a furious tone.

"I'm sorry Farah. But does this hoodie belong to you?" asks Elijah eagerly.

"Yeah, so? What, I can't own hoodies?" asks Farah, her temper was rising by the minute.

"No no, I never said that. I'm just confused by the fact that it was hiding in a bag in your closet," says Elijah.

"Look, whatever I do with my clothes is my business. Now, get out of my room before I call mom." Farah threatens.

Elijah hands the hoodie over to Farah and leaves. He goes to his room and sits on the bed. That hoodie looks very familiar, I have definitely seen it before he thought. Suddenly, he remembered the CCTV footage...
