Testing Day Part 3

After several hours the last of the youths' tests where complete and the village chief came back to the front of the stage.

"Congratulations and well done to you all, tonight will for many of you be the last night that you will ever spend in this village. " He paused as the crowd murmured.

"Know that we are proud of you, and this will always be your home, tonight we will celebrate and tomorrow you will set out on the next stage of your adventure!"

He stepped to the side and held out his hand as the guests step out onto the stage with him.

"Now I ask all but those that have been tested today to head out to the awaiting party." He waited as the villagers made their way out.

"Now young ones, I will hand you over to our guests and will see you all at the party later."

The village chief made his toward the edge of the stage as Joseph Randall stepped forward.

"Thank you, Chief Dean," Joseph and the others bow and then turned back to look at the youths.

"Today, other than a few of you, you all have been welcomed into one of the institutions we represent, and we will now give you a brief bit of more information."

"As you know I'm apart of Raven's Deep, we are an institution that is focused on training people toward becoming delvers."

Sophie Mycoth steps forward to stand beside Joseph. "I'm a part of the Haven Rain institution and we focus on military training and military professions."

Next Jonathan Thompson steps forward "I'm a part of the Shadow Tower institution and we focus on all things magic related."

Last Damian Grover steps forward "I'm part of Ritrove Cove institution and we focus on everything to do with civilian jobs from paperwork, cooking and training in the sciences."

Joseph Randall took back over. "Tomorrow everyone will meet with the representatives on the outskirts of Garbell Village, we will the provided you with more information on where we are heading and a basic information that you will need. While we have only given you a brief overview of the institutions, we will be giving you more details as we go along."

He smiled "Tonight enjoy yourselves, spend time with your family as you will not see them again for quite some time."

With that they walked away and the youths where all dismissed.

Aven waited quietly at the back of the seating area, as the other youths gradually made their way out of the ceremony area.

'Do I head out now, maybe I should try the library. Maybe I can find something about my talent, this is probably the only chance that I'll get as the guards will be focused on the party.'

Aven skimmed the edge of the part keeping out of the way, well as much as possible anyway but even so he could already feel people glaring at him.

He got away from the very edge of the party without drawing to much attention towards himself.

He headed down the street to one of the smaller huts at the end of the street which the villagers used as a local library, luckily the guards as he had thought where all mostly focused on the party, so he could get into the library fairly easily at least for now.

'I need to use this time wisely' he headed over to the small catalog, searching through the list he found only two books that might have an answer for him.

The first was a beginner's guide to talents and the second was an encyclopaedia of Talents.

He picked up both and head over to the window at the side of the hut. 'For now, I look at the encyclopaedia.'

He opened the book and looked through the index before he turned to the S section and started to browse.

After 30 minutes, he still hadn't found anything, and he looked through everything in the S section.

The only thing he picked up was he may or may not be able to summon something but even that was a guess.

He let himself look for a short while longer but still couldn't find anything of use.

'Maybe I should try the beginner's guide, I know that it won't contain information on my exact talent but maybe it will give me a chance to experiment a bit on my own.'

Slowly time past and the sounds of the party gradually died down, suddenly outside the library Aven heard voices.

"Such a pain, why couldn't we just enjoy the party for a while longer."

"You know we can't leave our posts for much long, besides the party is pretty much over anyway."

"I know but it would have been nice to have a little more time you know."

Aven peaked around the corner of the bookshelf at the two guards now standing at the entrance. 'Good thing I choice a window seat.'

Aven lightly pushed open the window and climbed out. He pushed the window shut behind him and made sure his hood was up.

Slowly he made his way back round the side of the hut and round to the street.

"Who's there" one of the guards called, squinting in to the dark.

Aven moved forward knowing he would have to walk past them to leave the village but at least they hopefully won't think he was coming out of the library.

"You" the guard sneered on recognising Aven "what do you want" he hissed.

'What do I do'.

"I just wanted to look up my talent". Aven answered.

'Maybe if they think I am coming instead of going I can get out more easily.'

The guards laughed "You, you want to read. Haha. "

"Don't even think about getting near the library, you are not allowed anywhere near the library. Get out of our sight before we make you."

Aven nodded hurriedly and turn towards the gate.

"Good riddance, at least he will finally be out of our hair."

"I know, it will be so good."

The guards laughed, Aven clenched his fist as he made a bee line for the gate.

'I need to leave soon, why do they hate me so much.'

As the gate come into view Aven breathed a sigh.

'Don't think about it, soon I'll be out of here, I just hope things will get better.'

With one last thought Aven stepped through the gate and headed for the tree line.
