CHAP 3: INTERVIEW
JACKLING POV
I couldn't still believe what was happening to me. Yesterday I received an email from Walker's Co saying they would like to interview me for the post of cyber security engineer in their company.
Actually that was the first company in which I had deposited my CV but I never got any response from them. Apparently the CEO and his PA the one in charge of taking care of the interview were out of the country that's why they couldn't contact me earlier.
Right now I was standing in front of the mirror checking myself out for like the tenth time.
I had tied my hair in a neat bun and decided to wear a white-sleeveless turtle neck with black pants and white sneakers.
"Okay... I think I look good" I reassured myself.
I grabbed my purse and headed out.
I was so excited yesterday that I could hardly find sleep, so I woke up late today. My alarm was completely useless!
I checked my wrist watch and saw I was left with just 30 mins to reach the company.
After 15mins of attempt I finally succeeded in getting a cab.
We rode for a while but soon the cab came to an halt.
"What's wrong sir? Why did you stop?" I asked the driver
"Ma'am there's traffic" he said and realisation dawned on me as I glanced through the car windows.
Normally it takes just 10mins to reach the company but with this traffic...
"Is there no other route?" I asked praying who would say yes
"Yes ma'am!"
"Yes!" I exclaimed clenching my fist.
"But the thing is we can't go through that route" he said causing my mood to drop.
"Why?" I asked him confused
"We already passed the route I was talking about. If I knew there was so much traffic, I would have taken it earlier. Now we're stuck in the traffic and it will take some time for me to reverse the car" he explained.
Time! That was the last thing I had right now. I was left with less than ten mins to reach the company and I could not afford coming late the day of the interview.
I asked the driver to indicate me the route he was talking about and once he was done doing so, I gave him some cash and ran out the cab.
I kept on running and running until I could see the tall building of the company from a far. I was left to simply cross the road, run again a little distance and I would be there.
I took the last sprint towards the company. I knew it was dangerous to cross while running but I had no time to think of ethics; I was running out of time.
While crossing the road I could notice a black sports car coming at a very high speed towards me and in the next seconds, all I could hear was the cringing sound of the car trying to come to a rest. By the time I realised what was actually going on, I was laying on the floor.
I sat up groggily trying to process what happened before taking a look at my body. Fortunately for me, I wasn't injured. The car came to a stop on time.
I was still seated on the floor when I heard someone speak
"You okay?"
I snapped my head up to where the voice came from and immediately my breath hitched. I was like paralysed.
Standing before me was the most beautiful or rather most handsome creature ever created. Gosh!!
He had piercing gray eyes. I had never seen someone with this eye color before. He had his jet black hair slip to the back but some strands of it falling in his eyes and that masculine jawline.... my goodness!!
"Hey! Hey!" He called out snapping his fingers in front of me and taking me out of my daze.
"Yesss" I answered still captivated by his looks.
"If you are done staring then move aside. You're in the way" he uttered rudely.
"And there he goes ruining everything with his attitude" I sighed.
"What did you just say?" He furrowed his brows.
"Nothing... sorry for been a hindrance" I said as I stood up.
"You should be! What a pitiful way of attracting attention" he said shaking his head.
"Excuse me?" What does he mean by that?
"It's useless acting up. I know you threw yourself before my car just to get my attention. That's what girls like you do right?!"
"Girls like me?"
"Yes. Girls who are ready to do anything just to seek notice from a rich man."
What was this man even talking about? He was starting to piss me off.
He looked at me head to toe, then fixed his eyes on mine
"Too bad for you but you're not my type." He scoffed.
I blinked thrice, utterly shocked by his behavior.
"And who do you think you are? Why would a pretty and lovely girl like me be attracted to a jerk like you?" He frowned at me.
"Yes you look good but that's all... you claim to be rich but what proves me that you are actually rich? Maybe you just borrowed this car from someone or better still you stole it right? You look pretty much as a fraudulous thief to me" I continued crossing my arms across my chest.
He became furious. I could see a vain popping on his forehead.
"How dare you?!" He said in between greeted teeth
"No you how dare you? Let me remind you that you are the one who started insulting and denigrating me for no good reason"
He came close to me pointing his finger at me
"Listen to me carefully-"
"No I won't. But I want you to listen to me...I will never sit and lower myself to the point of seeking notice from a rude and arrogant jerk like you. I apologized earlier to you but you started insulting me. However I will not let you insult me further neither will I waste my time with you. Now excuse me but I've got more important things to attend to... Bye Mr Jerk" I said turning around to leave.
He kept on saying some things but I decided to ignore him and just move away.
I feel like City X is filled with horrible men. First Max, after Derek and now this jerk.
"What a waste" I sighed and headed as fast as possible to the company.
....
I reached the reception and greeted the female there
"Hi! My name is Jackling Kyle. I'm here for the interview as cyber security engineer. "
She took a look at me and I could see her trying to stifle her laughter. It's true that right now I looked a mess. I was sweating, my hair was scattered due to all the running and because of that jerk my clothes were dirty. I felt a little embarrassed.
"Floor 44" she stated and I left for the lift.
In the lift I kept on thinking on what I was going to do. I was super late and there's no way I would be taken with my actual physical state. I felt like abandoning and just going home but my spirit kept on telling me every thing would be fine so I stayed.
The lift opened up revealing to me a huge crowd. Each and every one there was holding a file. Some looked nervous and others quite confident.
What was going on? I approached one of them and asked.
"Excuse me... please why are all these people here?"
She gave me weird stare before answering
"We're all here for the interview for the post of cyber security engineer"
"The interview is still going on?" I knew I wasted a lot of time arguing with that jerk earlier, so the interview should be moving to its end.
"No it just started. It's now that the members of jury are coming in"
"Thank you" I smiled.
I couldn't believe this... I wasn't late! Okay I was but I still made it to the interview.
Wow! I wouldn't have imagined that we would be so many to apply.
With this kind of population I surely had some few minutes before me to go clean up myself a bit in the washroom. I asked the lady from before if she knew where the washroom was and she indicated it to me.
....
Once I was back from the washroom I was shocked to see that the population had been halved.
The interview was going fast... faster than I expected. Every time someone will get in that person will not last even for five mins and always left with a disappointed look on their face. This made me really nervous so I started making a silent prayer in my heart.
By the time I opened my eyes again I was the only one left.
"Next!" A lady called out.
I gulped down the lump in my throat, made my way towards the door and knocked
"Come in"
Every thing's gonna be fine! Remember you are a daughter of Zion. Keep a bold spirit and let the Holy spirit guide you.
I took in a deep breath and turned the door knob.
