Foreword

For more than two months many new faces had been recruited by the City Science headquarters. D. Hall had been confined to his laboratory for a month, and the faces he commonly saw had been replaced by new ones. Upon observing this rare event, a slight warning arose in his mind.

He was a person who did not like to socialize and not be the center of attention, everything did not matter unless it was a scientific investigation. Ever since he graduated from the common school and entered the research headquarters, he lived his life secluded in books and experiments. His yearning for answers and research was greater than his fears. He liked investigating mutants and never stopped doing it. He was one of the few scientists who took risks for answers.

His life was summed up in one word: "science."

After entering headquarters, he was welcomed under the wing of some top D headquarters scientists for outstanding results of scientific tests. He studied and focused on his work for ten years. His teacher always told him that although he was not his most outstanding student, he was the one who most resembled him. "The goal of the scientist is not fame; that's what politicians are for. Our objective is to search for the answers that the world offers ".

Being a scientist these days it was easy to get drunk on fame and reputation. Most tended to be arrogant and conceited with egos higher than themselves. But none of that had affected Hall. He was like a reader on the sidelines as if none of this was part of his life. So it was easy to be excluded from the groups of his peers. Due to his indifferent personality, he had even offended many people, but none of that seemed to matter to him as no one could do anything to him. At twenty-seven years old, he was the youngest director of D headquarters. But unlike the other directors, he was not recognized by anyone. No one knew he was a director other than the higher ranks of headquarters who had access to his personal information. And since he never showed up to classes and didn't take the initiative to recruit students under his command, he could go unnoticed like any rookie scientist at headquarters.

His name was not sounded, since he was a lazy person who did not like to deal with anyone or with the problems of social relationships that caused his achievements to be awarded directly to his teacher. Even he did not know how he had come to the position of director when he had no record of scientific achievement.

Although he did not socialize, he was very observant. He recognized the more than a thousand faces at the headquarters. Not to mention that even a simple messenger with little presence was recognized by Hall. So many new faces couldn't be overlooked. More than fifty percent of the faces he saw were unfamiliar to him. He had a slight bad feeling, but it didn't stop him from searching for the answer to his doubts. It was with the only person he trusted.

"Hall, you really surprise me… when none of the old scientists here have noticed this event, you were the only one who managed to find out even though you don't socialize with anyone. I take back what I told you the first time I saw you. You really are the most outstanding student I have ever had. "His elderly teacher's voice rose maliciously speaking each word.

Hall looked at him skeptically. He never would have imagined the nature of his master could be so vile.

"Why?" he asked in his usual tone, as if his master's sudden change wasn't a surprise.

The old man seeing his favorite student so calmly as if none of this had anything to do with him, laughed mockingly. "Hall, you are admirable. Whatever happens, your temperament is like the calm sea. You never show fear or disturbance. Hah ... why did you have to be so smart? If you had pretended not to find out about anything, you would have been transferred to city B this week with me and lived in luxury for another two years "

"That means I am already a captive with a time limit until experiment V ends" he spoke without showing a hint of feelings or fear.

"Based on that you are my best student, I will request a death without suffering"

"I just want to know why" the old man did not plan to answer him, but from the moment he showed his true self, Hall was already a prisoner. He was never going to be seen by anyone again unless it was the ones who knew about the project.

"Project 2031" With that one answer, Hall got it all. For the first time since entering the investigation basement, he had shown his frown, along with a fury rising within him.

The old man would never have expected such a reaction from his student. Since meeting him she had never seen more than a slight frown.

Hall was a really lazy person. His nonchalant nature made any feelings of anger subside before reaching the surface. But the bomb that his teacher just missed was greater than any other feeling. He had never imagined that a group of people would have so much guts to bring the project start under the blindfold of the world.

"Do you know about the 2031 project?" Hall did not reply. His gaze focused on emptiness. He did not consider himself a kind or altruistic person, but he was not evil either. Hearing about a possible start to a superhuman project that was taking place made him question for the first time in his life whether the path to truth he chose was really the right one. Now I understood why they needed Experiment V to end. I was just contributing indirectly. Once the experiment is finished, it will be the basis for that project's key.

He touched his wrist, hidden under his dermis was a control that he had accidentally linked three days ago to the main database at headquarters D.

From the moment his teacher unmasked his true self, he had activated the central data erasure of all his investigations including those that were in the headquarters of all the scientists. He had deactivated the central alarm and now he only needed to press his wrist lightly to finish it all.

His lost gaze fell back on the old man's face, then shifted to the hidden security camera. He did not wish he had come to this end, but even if he managed to kill the old man, he knew he would not pass beyond the great metal gates.

His rationality was so high that despite the situation he found himself in, he had already carefully calculated everything before making his decision.

"See you never" spoke two words before unleashing a huge explosion that destroyed the entire building in the center of the city.

"Oh, what an organization was so adept at blowing up the entire central research building in this city. Even though it's just a simple D-city, they can't be so incompetent that they can't protect themselves from some terrorist organization, right? " a voice full of amusement and disdain rose from the third floor of the best restaurant in town. The man who spoke had delicate features like the flower, his androgynous beauty gave him a charm that neither women nor men can overlook. He was really beautiful with his long blonde hair tied up in a high ponytail and a seductive almond look. She was the embodiment of sin. He leaned down to look at the man in front of him, but he didn't give him a single glance. His sight was on the window where the screams and chaos of the city could be heard. Then he focused his gaze on the building that burned in flame as if hell had descended on D-city.

Without a word, he got up from his seat and walked towards the exit.

"Tsk tsk… I haven't even finished my steak, can't my senior general be a little more considerate?" He sighed theatrically heavily. "Human machine," he roared softly and chased after him right away.

* tsk: tongue click.
