Five's a crowd

As the four of them walked to their dorms, Terrence rounded on Daphne. "What the hell was that?" Daphne smiled innocently. "What was what?" Loki looked at her curiously. "You got a Level 1.6! There's no way you're actually that level!" Daphne laughed sheepishly. "Was I that obvious? Well, if you have to know, I wanted to hang out with you guys instead of people like Nishan. Since I can't fight the school system, I'll just have to bend some rules. After all, the higher-ups can't punish me if I didn't break any rules." Daphne gave a small giggle.

Seraphine shook her head incredulously. "You are something, alright. Won't your parents make the school change your level?" "Nah," Daphne said breezily. "My parents don't care about me at all. They give me anything I want but attention, so they wouldn't care about my grades or what level I ended up with."

As they entered the dorms, a mint-haired girl was sitting on a bed, her things already arranged. "Hi," the girl said. "I'm Ava. Nice to meet you." She held out her hand. Loki reached his hand out and shook it.

Loki's brows furrowed together. Ava still hadn't let go of his hand.

Ava frowned. "What's your Ability?" she asked Loki. "He doesn't have one," Daphne cut in, holding out her hand. "Daphne Phoenix, Electric user." Ava's eyes widened as she quickly shook Daphne's hand. "Aren't you an Original? I wish I had been sorted into your group." Terrence looked confused. "Why's that?" Loki quickly Inspected Ava.

Loki was about to answer, when Daphne said with a grin, "She's a Silver, which means her Ability is Copycat. She probably got sorted into a group of low-tiers and touched one of them, so she didn't get a high level. She wanted to shake our hands to copy our Abilities."

Seraphine looked surprised. "How did you know that?" "My parents had me tutored about any family that matters. The Silvers aren't particularly wealthy, but Copycat is a powerful Ability, making them a powerful family. They have this type of power because a human and an Original mated, which birthed in a Halfling."

Ava laughed. "Wow. I'm surprised you know that. Most Originals, or at least higher-tier Ability users wouldn't pay attention to their lessons.

Loki grinned. "Daphne isn't one of those haughty brats. She purposely flunked the level separation test and totally burned Nishan."

"Damn," Ava whistled. "We have one sassy Original, huh?"

Daphne smiled. "I've always wanted some more down-to-earth friends. That is, we are friends, right?"

Ava grinned. "I'd love to be your friend. What about the rest of you?"

"Sure!" Seraphine said. "We're all friends! We should probably settle in." Everyone claimed their beds, the girls on one side of the room and the boys on the other.

As he got into bed, Loki smiled to himself. He had found some friends who were nice and real. Loki found himself excited for the next day, which was something he had never really felt before. He couldn't wait to complete more challenges and level up, and become someone powerful.
