Chapter 1Intro: Fight Against the Gloom Serpent
Light didn't dare tread in the Shadowed Realm Forest. Towering trees, draped in darkness, stood like giants in the gloom. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decay, and every sound seemed muffled, swallowed by the oppressive blackness. It had been two grueling weeks since I found myself stranded here, surviving on sheer willpower and a growing understanding of this unforgiving wilderness.I had adjusted to the routine: exploring the dense, twisted woods, foraging for whatever sustenance I could find, and always staying vigilant for the monsters that lurked in the shadows. My encounters with the creatures of this realm were never easy, but I had learned to adapt. Yet, I knew better than to let my guard down.As I crouched in the underbrush, skinning a Shadow Goat I had caught, a familiar unease prickled at the back of my neck. The hairs on my arms stood on end, and a chill swept through me. I slowly lifted my gaze, and there it was—the Gloom Serpent, a massive, sinuous beast with scales that shimmered in shades of deep purples and blacks. It watched me with eyes that glowed with an eerie light, its tongue flicking out.My heart pounded in my chest as I instinctively began to back away, tossing the half-skinned goat toward the serpent. The carcass landed with a soft thud, and the serpent's head darted down, jaws snapping shut around its prey. For a brief moment, I dared to hope it would be satisfied, but those hopes were quickly dashed as the serpent lifted its head, fixing its hungry gaze on me once more.I froze, my mind racing. The Gloom Serpent slithered forward, its movements fluid and silent, like a living shadow. I knew running would be futile. The beast was too fast for me to escape unscathed. Panic clawed at the edges of my mind, threatening to consume me, but I forced it back, gritting my teeth as I activated my "Battle Sense" skill.A wave of clarity washed over me, and the world seemed to slow down. My fear receded, replaced by cold, focused determination. With a steady hand, I reached behind me and drew my weapon—a bone greatsword, forged from the remains of a beast I had slain during my first week in this hellish place. The sword emanated a darkness that sent a shiver down my spine every time I wielded it.The Gloom Serpent lunged at me just as I raised the greatsword, its fangs bared and dripping with venom. The impact was like being hit by a battering ram; I was forced back, my feet sliding across the damp forest floor as I struggled to hold my ground. I skidded to a stop nearly five feet away, my arms shaking from the force of the blow. The serpent hissed, its tail whipping toward my head with blinding speed.I barely managed to duck in time, the tail whistling past my ear. The serpent coiled back, its body blending seamlessly into the shadows of the trees. I narrowed my eyes, scanning the darkness for any sign of movement, but the beast had vanished as if it had never been there at all. This was its domain, and it was a master of the hunt. The serpent knew every inch of this forest, every shadowed crevice where it could strike. I couldn't rely on sight alone; I had to trust my instincts, my connection to the earth itself.Drawing a deep breath, I crouched low and pressed my hand to the ground. Focusing my energy, I reached out with my "Earth Sense" skill, feeling the vibrations in the soil, the subtle shifts in the terrain. For a moment, there was nothing—most likely, the beast was coiled somewhere among the trees, waiting.I sharpened my focus, trying in vain to sense its presence. Suddenly, it struck from my left. I spun around, swinging my blade, but the serpent was quicker, dodging and whipping its tail toward me with lethal intent. I didn't have time to evade. Instinctively, I activated my "Earth Shield" skill, a barrier of stone and earth erupting between us. My mana was nearly spent.Seizing the moment, I slashed at the tail, the greatsword cleaving through scales and flesh with a sickening crunch. The serpent hissed in fury, recoiling into the shadows for another attack. Desperation gnawed at me as I used my "Earth Sense" again, draining what little mana I had left. There—a faint tremor as the serpent slithered through the earth. It was coming.I tightened my grip on the greatsword, muscles taut and ready. The ground beneath me quivered as the serpent burst from the shadows, its maw wide open. But this time, I was prepared. With a roar, I swung the greatsword in a wide arc, the blade slicing through the air with a dark, ominous hum.The sword met the serpent's scales with a bone-jarring impact, but I didn't stop. I channeled all my strength into the blow, feeling the dark energy of the sword surge through me. The serpent shrieked, a high-pitched, unnatural sound, as the blade bit deep into its flesh. Black ichor sprayed from the wound, sizzling as it hit the ground. The beast recoiled, writhing in pain, but I pressed the advantage. With another mighty swing, I brought the greatsword down on the serpent's head, aiming for its glowing eyes. The blade connected, and the serpent's shriek cut off abruptly as it collapsed, its body twitching before going still.Panting, I stood over the fallen beast, the greatsword still vibrating in my hands. The battle had been brief, but every moment had been a fight for survival. I had won this time, but I knew that the forest held many more dangers, each more deadly than the last.As the dark blood of the Gloom Serpent pooled at my feet, I couldn't help but feel a grim satisfaction. I had survived yet another encounter in this world, and with each victory, I grew stronger. But I also knew that my true challenges were only beginning.

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions be known. Thank you.
