Kim’s’ birthday

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you Kim, happy birthday to you ! "

Lisy sang, as she entered her daughter's room with a small cupcake in her hand.

Kim woke up when she heard the song her mother was singing to her.

"Thanks, Mom ! "

She said, hopping on her bed.

"Don't fall down darling ! "

Kim, was a child who had always overflowed with energy and joy. She brightened the lives of everyone she knew. She was the best thing that ever happened to Lisy.

"Come make a wish before the candlelight goes out."

Kim, standing on the bed facing her mother, closed her eyes for five seconds to make a wish, then blew out the five-shaped candle placed on the cupcake.

"Can your pretty little mommy know what wish you made ?"

Lisy asked, making sweet eyes at her daughter.

"Oh no ! Mommy, you always told me it had to be a secret.

"Okay, you're right. "

Lisy replied.

Lisy waited for her to finish eating her cupcake before jumping on top of her to tickle her. That was her weakness.

And it was off to a moment of laughter between mother and daughter.

"Come on, tell me what wish you made or I'll keep going."

"Stop it Mom !"

Replied the little girl with her cute laugh.

Lisy pretended not to hear and continued.

"Okay stop it Mom, I'll tell you."

She laughed.

"Very well, wise decision."

"I vowed to have a daddy."

Lisy's facial expression suddenly changed. She'd always told her daughter that her father was in heaven.

For he had indeed died for her, he abandoned them .

"I'd like to have a dad like my classmates and April."

She repeated as her mother remained silent.

"We are going to be late come on, I've made you a princess breakfast."

Lisy replied, trying to change the subject.

She was already regretting asking her daughter what wish she'd made, now she knows why it should remain a secret.

"A princess breakfast ? With waffles in the shape of Barbie ?"

Kim asked curiously.

"Yes my precious."

"Yippee ! I love you mommy !"

Shouted the little one as she jumped into her mother's arms .

"I love you too my baby girl !"

She also said, kissing her forehead.

Then the two headed for the kitchen, hand in hand.

Mother and daughter ate their breakfasts in the same jovial atmosphere as every morning.

A few minutes later, Lisy was getting her daughter ready for kindergarten, after getting ready for duty.

"No, Mum I can tie my own shoelaces".

Kim ordered, removing her foot from her mother's leg.

"Ok ok boss, I forgot you're a big girl now."

Lisy declared, leaving her to it.

Kim, after a few attempts couldn't tie her shoelaces properly.

"Don't worry, you'll soon be able to tie your shoelaces on your own without my help you know when I was your age I couldn't tie my shoelaces either."

Lisy said, seeing her daughter discouraged.

The little girl put her foot back on her mother's leg.

"I make two bunny ears, then I put them together in a cross, then I pass an ear under the bridge, then I cross them again and pass an ear under the bridge and there I have my bow tie."

"Wow ! You're a magician, Mom ."

Kim said, applauding her mother.

"Thanks sweetie ! "

Kissing her cheek.

"Well, I think we're ready. As usual, you'll stay with Mrs. Peabody after class ."

Mrs. Peabody, was their neighbor and the good Samaritan who saved her life by watching over Kim for her when she was on duty, since she was a full-time mom.

It also saved Lisy from having to hire a babysitter, and saved her money. What's more, Kim and Mrs. Peabody's daughter : April got along well .

Suddenly, someone rang the doorbell.

"Oh, speak of the wolf and you'll see his tail!

Said Lisy, as she went to open the door, because she knew it had to be Mrs Peabody, they didn't receive any visitors apart from Mrs Peabody, Annalus and the deliverymen.

When she opened the door, April rushed over to Kim.

"Happy birthday Kim ! "

She shouted, giving her a hug.

"Thank you April ! "

Kim replied, hugging her friend.

"I bought you a bracelet for your birthday."

Without delay, she disengaged herself from her friend's embrace and pulled a small box out of her backpack, handed it to her.

During this moment, the two moms were enjoying this beautiful moment of love between their daughters.

"I love it, thanks April !"

She said after opening the box.

"I'm glad you like it, I took the same bracelet too, it'll be our friendship bracelet."

Then they hugged.

"Mom, look what April gave me."

Kim said, showing the bracelet her friend had given her.

"It's pretty honey."

"Happy birthday Kim !"

Said Mrs. Peabody.

"Thank you Mrs. Peabody ! "

"Susan, how are you ? They've made us forget our good manners."

"Oh don't worry today's a special day, my girls what do you say if we go to the mall after school for ice cream. "

Says Mrs. Peabody.

"Yes yes, Yippee !!! "

Shouted Kim and April excitedly.

"Thank you Susan, I can't thank you enough for all you do for my daughter and me."

"Don't thank me, we have to help each other out neighbor to neighbor. Well, it's time for us to go, we're running a little late."

"You're right."

"See you in the evening then. "

"Yes and thanks again."

And as usual, Lisy gave her daughter a kiss before she left.

"Goodbye madam !"

"Bye April ! "

After they'd gone, Lisy glanced quickly at her wristwatch.

"Shit ! "

She was running late. She hadn't seen the time pass.

Her boss Mrs. Collins was very strict when it came to work and punctuality. There was no way for her to lose this job because it was her dream job.

She'd been doing job after job since she'd come to Manhattan two years ago.

It was by a lucky break that Collins Event's had accepted her letter of application for a vacant post.

But long before that, Mrs. Collins had put her to the test.

She had asked her to show her a glimpse of how she would plan a wedding with the theme "Love and Glamour".

Lisy presented her project with a few images she'd found on the Internet in less than two days.

Mrs. Collins contacted her a few days later, telling her that she had been hired because among all the projects her other future colleagues had presented the fiancé and the fiancée had preferred hers and had even described her project as a work of genius and professional.

She had been working at Collins Event's for six months now. She hadn't studied or trained as an event planner but she could boast about her talent.

Now that she knew she had a really well-paid job, Lisy had used her savings to move with her daughter, to a comfortable new apartment, better than the little apartment they were in.

A small, shabby apartment where rainwater often passed through the walls and flooded the whole room.

She remembered that Kim thought it was great because for her it was an opportunity to have fun with the water.

"Taxi ! "

She shouted.

It wasn't her habit to take taxis to work but she was too late to take the metro.

Inside the taxi, Lisy began to pray in her heart that Mrs. Collins wouldn't scold her because of her lateness and throughout the drive she did nothing but stress.

A few minutes later, the driver pulled up in front of Collins Event's building. After, paying the taxi man she got out and rushed into the building.

All her other colleagues were already in front of their desks as usual.

She breathed a sigh of relief that her boss wasn't around she was lucky.

"You're late, that's not in your habits."

Annalus whispered softly to Lisy as she sat down in the chair at her desk.

"I didn't see the time go by, does Mrs. Collins is in already ?"

She also whispered as their desks were close together.

"Yes, she's in her office.

Lisy wanted to reply to Annalus when she was interrupted by Rose, another of her colleagues.

"Mrs. Collins wants to see you in her office right away ."

Lisy's heart pounded in her chest.

And the unpleasant way Rose used to talk to her did not help her convince herself that she was panicking for nothing.

Rose hated Lisy because Mrs. Collins had forgotten about her since she arrived at the company. Lisy was stealing her place .

"Ok !"

She replied.

"Why does she want to see you?

Annalus asked Lisy, after Rose had left.

"I have no idea, I'm going I don't want to keep her waiting."

Then she got up and headed for her boss's office.

Arrived in front of her boss's office,

Lisy breathed in and out before knocking on the door, it was the first time Mrs. Collins had asked to see her in private in her office, and she hoped it wasn't because she came late or she was no longer satisfied by her works.

"Come in ! "

She heard Mrs. Collins shout.

"Good morning madam ! You asked to see me."

She said shyly as she entered the office.

"Yes Lisy have a seat!"

Wow ! Her boss looked so serious.

"I hope you're well, I wanted to see you because I have something important to tell you and I'm not going to beat about the bush, ever since I' ve employed you in my company..."

Damn !

Was she about to tell her that she was going to be sacked ?

Lisy wondered inwardly.

Her heart was pounding.

Indeed what Mrs. Collins was about to tell her was going to turn her life upside down.
