Severed Fate

A heroic villainess, Corlissa Veronique is an anomaly herself, such a paradox is the best description of her existence. A pitiful soul forever chained to the bindings of the Villainess, she was a bug in the system, a glitch in society, a defect in the world. Memories of past lives, her own life played on repeat, that was the curse of the Villainess. Emotions never left her, she felt the suffocation of betrayal time and time again, the burning of hate, the drowning of despair, the delightful yet excruciating taste of love. Each time they turned their backs to her she felt the same emotions each and every time. It was as if she was just a marionette, obeying commands against her will as if her free-flowing string of fate that connected to her 'happily ever after' was trapped tightly in the grip of other people's hands, stretching and fraying it however they wished. She vowed to, without fail, fulfil the wishes of the previous villainess who had left the world with unmistakable anguish...and sympathy. Such empathy... "You are a person, no matter what you look like or what you do, unless you prove me otherwise I will continue to view you as who you are." Such compassion... "I wish you didn't have to suffer, I wish you could've been born into a better world." Such understanding... "Let me handle the rest, take a comfortable rest." Such selflessness... "I won't let you suffer anymore..." She truly was such an exemplary hero. --- The cover art is not mine, I found it on Google. ^^

A crowd of humans all held some kind of weapon in their hands as if they were preparing to go to war with some other party. That other party was Corlissa Veronique. The daughter of the Duke that had gone against her own race, she had betrayed her fellow humans.

Yet in the midst of their chaos of yelling, a blue-haired figure appeared above them. She was standing on the air with the Crown Prince standing next to her.

Once everyone registered who it was, they prepared themselves to attack her without injuring their Crown Prince.

“Those entities you called ‘demons’, you haven’t actually met them yet, right?” Corlissa rhetorically asked, her voice ceasing all the mutters.

Words of confusion quickly spread amongst those gathered beneath the Veronique’s feet.

“Those things?”

“Are they too scared to face such a race with more intelligence than them?”

“Ha, that’s true, they were like barbarians calling us swine.”

Those words angered Corlissa, a suffocating pressure sunk into the air, leaving them shaking on their feet.

Corlissa clicked her fingers together, the entire population of ‘demons’ immediately appeared to the left of Corlissa while the humans were pushed to the right of her.

“Take a good look at who you’re calling inferior to you,” Corlissa’s voice rang.

“Tch. Why have you brought us to such degenerates, AV794D?!”

“Look! It’s a real-life human! Wow!” exclaimed a young ‘demon’.

“I found myself!!! Look, look! Mother, it’s my origin!!” another young ‘demon’ excitedly pointed to show their mother, they were pointing at a human.

Instead of marvelling at the ‘demons’, the humans were in a state of shock, tears were abundant.

“Darling?! How...but you died…” a woman’s defeated voice rang out as a trail of teardrops didn’t stop falling.

“That’s me...but I’m myself..” a confused voice stated.

“Sir! But you sacrificed yourself for us in the war..!”

“Mama..? But Papa said you weren’t going to come back...Mama why do you have wings, do angels have black wings..?” the voice of a young child could be heard as the young boy stepped forward towards the demons.

The ‘demon’ the child was referring to as their mother hatefully glared at the young boy. The ‘demon’ raised their wing, a sharp point at the end of it in full display.

“WAIT!!” someone screamed to stop the child from walking closer, at that moment everyone had realised what the ‘demon’ was about to do.

Yet no one was able to stop it as the wing neared closer to the child’s neck.

“Mothe-” the young boy was cut short.

The wing was at his neck, yet there was no blood, was it mercy?

“I would prefer if you didn’t do that,” Corlissa’s sarcastic voice reverberated through all their ears as she glared down at them with a malicious smirk.

“Anyway, I’m sure you humans have noticed something about these ‘demons’ and I suppose you ‘demons’ can see your origin in person. This was just an appetiser, I’m going to make sure you all pay for her death. Your Prince is in my grasp, I would recommend not doing anything too drastic,” Corlissa spoke with superiority laced in her voice.

“If you want him back, I would recommend winning against me. You all should know, one race is not enough to injure me. On the 7th night, I will declare war, prepare yourselves.”

“She’s escaping! Mages! Both squadrons!” yelled Marquis Lancelot. ‘My apologies, young child, I have a family that needs to stay alive,’ he thought as he was commanding attacks.

An array of attacks reached the Veronique, her eyes briefly glancing at them before pushing the Prince away. She stood there unaffected by the constriction spells and simply let them pull her towards the ground where the ‘demons’ were also preparing their attacks.

“Middle rangers!” shouted Marquis Geraint while also adorning a face of regret.

‘I hoped it wouldn’t have come to this point,’ thought the Duke as he mournfully gazed upon the chaos and the silent pain that was hidden beneath her eyes.

Various knights, including her classmates from Amiere Academy, all launched attacks towards Corlissa. But she just stood there, taking every attack without flinching.

Those ‘demons’ were also partaking in the attack, agents dressed in tuxedos were moving faster than the untrained eye could pick up. They had ominously glistening blades yet there wasn’t a single scratch on Corlissa.

There was no bloodshed despite their continuous attempts.

Their routine attacks morphed to compliment each other, it was truly impeccable coordination that there wasn’t a single opening for her to escape.

However, it was the Veronique, her limits were still unknown to both races.

Seeing as how the battle was not tipping into their favour, the King ordered for the Grand Mage to step in.

“Gate of Hell!” a pained expression was subtly plastered onto Sir Eliot’s face as he unleashed his attack.

It was a magic attack that he had created, mixing both void magic and fire magic, he created an inescapable bind. A void of fire, just like hell.

A formation of a gate opened beneath the young Veronique but no one else was affected, they continued attacking without any worries about getting caught into the Grand Mage’s spell. It was subjected to just the Veronique.

Corlissa who was still standing there didn’t feel any threat, it was a powerful attack, that is true. However, she had to endure such a physical attack for the decades of suffering didn’t instil any fear into her.

It looked as if the flames were engulfing her as she sunk deeper into the void that opened beneath her. However, the attacks were gradually being pushed back.

“I commend your efforts, but aren’t you all being too impatient? You should learn some manners,” Corlissa smirked as the area where the attacks were hitting grew further away from her.

It grew to the extent of a cube, a cube encompassing her entire body with the edges of the cube being the barrier that surrounded her.

Those people attacking her were growing more tired, their energy was getting drained from how long the battle was dragging on.

“I haven’t even found the need to take out my blade. On the 7th night I hope to see you all there and please don’t disappoint me with this meagre level of attacks,” Corlissa voiced as an invisible force dragged the Prince into the cube that she was in.

That King she thought was an ally quickly turned against her, “Don’t you dare ever step onto our land when this is over, your head will go rolling before you get the chance!”

‘Haha, how naive of me. How could I expect to be allowed to live a happy life with everyone after they find out my intentions?’ Corlissa thought masking a pained expression.

She scowled at the King as she stated, “I don’t care what happens to me as long as you all pay for your ignorance and her death.”

Despite her father not uttering a word throughout all the predicaments, he had finally gotten to the point where he was overrun with trauma, frustration and disappointment.

Although speaking in a rather quiet voice, to Corlissa, his voice rang in her ear, “You really are a villain.”
