Light and Speed

Both special powers were from different elements.

The first one was from the Enigma series — it was light!

Lin Chao was currently a Level F Evolved. The distance of light he could manipulate was around three meters. The range was not that big but was more than enough for a melee battle as he could now manipulate light within this range however he wanted.

What results could light manipulation achieve?

Turning invisible. Flashing it like a flash grenade. Illuminating dark spaces. All these and more depended on light!

The second was related to his battle abilities — enhanced speed!

The speed enhancement strengthened Lin Chao's original speed by a factor of two, which meant that he could reach a speed ten times faster than an average human using this power based on his current physique.

What did ten times faster mean?

It meant that he would be able to cover ten meters in merely half a second!

Among the various abilities in the Battle series, speed was one of the strongest attack abilities. In addition to Lin Chao's proficiency in melee battle, the combination was perfect.

Grr... Grr…

The rumble of Lin Chao's stomach came with a pang of hunger. He felt the stomach acid slushing within him like it was going to melt his form away, even his cells felt as if they had grown sharp little mouths and were nibbling at his flesh. It felt awful.

Lin Chao went out of his room for food at once.

The feeling of famine was slightly soothed when he grabbed a handful of uncooked rice from the kitchen and swallowed it straight. It was then that Lin Chao immediately began cooking.

After having his share, Lin Chao left some food for Lin Shiyu. The girl had locked herself in her room for days for reasons unknown but she seemed fatigued by listening to her heartbeat.

Lin Chao did not probe any further. He went back to his room and retrieved the small black box from his pocket.

There was a keyhole on it.

Lin Chao had no key with him, so he could only utilize his Grade B1 unlocking skill as he pried the lock with tools like wire and screwdriver in futility.

He resorted to the second method to unlock items — brute force!

Bashing it with brute force!

However, this was also an exercise in futility that Lin Chao gave up. His steel bar was going to be bent from all the hitting but the small black box still seemed unbelievably tough and maintained its original state.

Logically, the only things I won't be able to unlock in these olden times with my B1 unlocking skill are the national treasury and the nuclear arsenal. All the other locks are a piece of cake, what's more, this easy-peasy-actual-having-to-use-a-key lock.

Unless… this isn't from the olden times?

Lin Chao jolted.

Then there's only one possibility if it isn't from the olden times!

An item from the ruins!

If this is true, then it can only be unlocked with the key, or when my unlocking ability reaches Grade A. Otherwise, it's hopeless. Although, the main point is that… this Peril Strain has gone into the ruins! This means that there's an entrance to the ruins in this city!

Lin Chao's eyes shone.

After the virus erupted into a pandemic, plenty of ruins appeared in the world. These ruins were located in another dimension with entrances that were extremely well hidden. One would sometimes find himself entering a foreign land while sauntering on the street when there was a sudden ripple in the air.

The entrance leading to the ruins was random.

It could be here now but would shift to another location after some time. Some ruins entrances would change up to seven times within ten years.

Every ruin was different inside. Some were deadly, killing anyone who entered with dangerous mechanisms while others contained a treasure chest filled with magical items like hypermodern weapons, genetic-modifying drugs, and special skills.

The Peril Strain came out alive. It means that the ruin it entered isn't a lethal one. It must contain lots of gems. I've never seen anything like this black box, so it can be deduced that the ruin hasn't appeared in the China region after a hundred over years but was overseas instead!

And it's the first time it's being activated now!

Lin Chao's eyes were glowing. The first to gain entry to an untouched ruin was like being the first one to eat the crabs – one would always get the best.

But this city is too big. It's impossible for me to search every corner even if I'm an Evolved. The area must be reduced. Lin Chao began considering options.

The Organism Detector's range was thirty miles and its waves were spread over a period of two days. However, the Peril Strain did not turn up within two days. This meant that it was not within the thirty-mile distance in the beginning. It had come from somewhere further.

Calculating the Peril Strain's speed and number of times it ate, Lin Chao calculated a rough estimation that its original location was between thirty to fifty miles away.

The ruins must be within the twenty-mile buffer!

"I'll need about three days to go through every corner of these twenty miles with my speed."

Lin Chao departed instantly.

He no longer wore the magazine arm guards, equipping himself with only his steel bar and a few flying knives before he left after leaving a note.

When he reached the residential estate, Lin Chao walked straight ahead without intentionally avoiding the zombies.

A few zombies that were wandering under a tree sniffed the human scent on Lin Chao at once, turning around and dashing over in excited howls.

However, Lin Chao moved on casually. The zombies that used to move so swiftly in his eyes were as slow as snails now. Right when they were about to lunge at him, he swung the steel bar with all his might toward them.

Bang!

The steel bar broke the head of the zombie in front as if the hard skull was a weak piece of porcelain.

Roar! Roar!

Not knowing what fear was, the other two zombies continued to pounce aggressively.

Lin Chao wore the look of nonchalance as he simply waved the steel bar in his grip, easily shattering their heads with his basic physique that was twice as powerful as them.

The growls and snarls of these zombies had drawn in the others that were nearby. Plenty more that had picked up the scent of sweat on Lin Chao scurried over as well.

From a bird's eye view, zombies from several neighboring buildings could be seen swarming like armies of ants to gradually pack around Lin Chao.

Lin Chao did not hide. He manipulated the steel bar as best he could and killed every approaching zombie with just one bash! His tyrannical force prevented the zombies from even approaching him. Lin Chao stepped on a zombie's head that had its mouth gaping, and the pressing weight from his foot crushed the skull, causing a mixture of brain and bones to get stuck to the sole of his shoes.

Bang! Bang!

Lin Chao killed the creatures as he walked.

The horrendous zombies pounced at him one after another but their heads were smashed before they could go anywhere near Lin Chao. There was no zombie that could stop him in his track. When he arrived at the entrance of the residential area, over a hundred zombies had succumbed from getting beheaded; the flowing blood and headless carcasses were like a bloody path of Shura, the king of the underworld, paving the straight line that Lin Chao had been walking all the way to the gate.

Sticky blood dripped from Lin Chao's steel bar but there was not a drop of filth on him. He wiped the bar clean on a zombie's clothes and moved on quickly.

Lin Chao did not mind clearing the zombies in the residential estate as it was where he lived, but there were too many zombies on the street and he had no time for them.

Swoosh!

Like a speedy leopard, Lin Chao traveled over a hundred meters in just a few steps, disappearing from detection before the roving zombies that were alerted along the way could react.

These zombies could only drift towards the direction he went based on the scent he had left.
