"Are you a rogue cultivator?" Chu Shanhe asked enthusiastically.
Lin Chao shook his head. He had seen ancient practitioners — people who kept the same way from the olden times. They had marvelous battle skills as each of them from the league had Grade D in battle skills while other core members were Grade B1 and above. It was said that the big guns in the league were superb battle masters at Level S!
Level S was the trump card. It represented the peak!
Whether it was an Evolved or one's battle skill, reaching Level S meant one was standing at the pinnacle. Each of them was an extraordinary figure. Survival was no longer an issue as their topic of contemplation was how to dominate the world and become the sole ruler!
"How is it possible that you're not…" Chu Shanhe thought that Lin Chao was not being honest; how could he have such solid battle skills if he was not an ancient practitioner? Could he be an expert in martial arts? Chu Shanhe did not pursue it further after some thoughts. Just like his identity as a militant, his casual disclosure of it would be recorded as a major demerit if it were not for the emergency period right now.
He stuck his hand out and said gratefully, "It's all thanks to your rescue. Otherwise, I may have died from these disgusting things here."
Lin Chao shook his head and answered, "You're tough, you won't die so easily."
He was speaking the truth. Even if he were not here, Chu Shanhe would have survived anyway. Recorded history said that Chu Shanhe died after becoming a Level S Evolved. There were at least a few years from now.
Chu Shanha did not read between the lines of Lin Chao's words, thinking that the latter was only complimenting him. He laughed. "You're right, brother. I've taken many bullets in this lifetime and am still perfectly alive today. These monsters aren't worthy to kill me yet!"
Lin Chao nodded and scanned the group.
"Where are you guys heading?"
He did not want his appearance to change Chu Shanhe's destined trail. These legendary figures had their fated encounters. If he interrupted them recklessly, the butterfly effect could perhaps turn them ordinary. Of course, it was possible that they could exceed their past life's accomplishments as well.
However, Lin Chao did not want to cultivate these people personally. It would waste too much of his energy. He was used to flying solo. Nonetheless, he did not mind sowing a seed in Chu Shanhe.
In the future, perhaps there could be a day the seed would grow.
"The whole world is a disaster right now. This city is fully turned into the monsters' playground. My brother is coming to pick us up with the troop, so we're going to the meeting point. Brother, do you want to join us in the military since you have such incredible skills? The world is a mess now, and it's the best time to contribute and build merits. With your capability, you'll become a major general very quickly. That's right, how do I address you, brother?" Chu Shanhe's gaze at Lin Chao was heated, wanting very much to recruit him in building a career together.
"I'm Lin Chao," said Lin Chao calmly, "I'm used to freedom, I don't like the restrictions in the military. I've got some free time anyway, let me send you guys to the meeting point."
Chu Shanhe was rather anxious when Lin Chao rejected him and attempted to persuade the latter. "Brother Lin Chao, you're very skilled but there are too many monsters in this city. These are only the weakest mutations. More animals will mutate and become fearfully powerful. A pair of fists can hardly fight four limbs. If you come with me to the military, at least your safety is guaranteed."
Lin Chao shook his head. "We'll talk about it next time. Let me send all of you there first."
Slightly disappointed that he was not intrigued at all, Chu Shanhe finally relented. "Brother Lin Chao, if you wish to join us in the future, remember to cite my name. I'll always wait for you!"
"Sure." Lin Chao agreed with a smile.
"Alright, let's go then." Chu Shanhe let out an easygoing laugh and led the team with Lin Chao following close behind, officer Little Song and the medical officers after the latter.
When the six of them gathered, the human scent on them was as distinct as a bright lamp in the dark night.
Lin Chao could predict that it was nearly impossible for these five people to all arrive at the meeting point if he was not here. People would definitely be sacrificed but Chu Shanhe would ultimately survive.
This was a seed of kindness Lin Chao sowed in Chu Shanhe. He had only saved the additional handful of people on the way. Gripping the steel bar in his left, his right hand stretched toward officer Little Song as he said, "Give me your gun." His tone allowed no room for denial.
Little Song was stunned. He hesitated. It was a firearm after all. If…
Chu Shanhe saw the uncertainty in his eyes and spoke immediately, "Let Brother Lin Chao use it first."
He had not given up recruiting Lin Chao yet. To him, Lin Chao was an ancient practitioner and must not have touched a pistol before. Even if he had some encounters and got to use it a few times, his marksmanship would not be that amazing and would return the pistol to Little Song after some self-realization.
"Yes, sir." Officer Little Song obeyed and passed the pistol to Lin Chao.
Looking at the pistol and toying with it for a minute, Lin Chao promptly felt the few nexuses of the gun that could disassemble the weapon with some force.
Lin Chao's main focus in his past life was melee combat. He did not pay too much attention on firearms and was only at Grade B2 in his firearm skills. However, Grade B2 firearm skills were already an amazing wonder in the early stage of the apocalypse that had yet to fully disengage itself from the olden times.
One must know that his Grade B unlocking skill could unlock anything including electronic locks, internet passwords, actual locks and whatnot, except the national treasury and nuclear arsenal. As long as it was a lock, it was included in his skill as it was a capability learned in the ruins.
When a Grade B1 unlocking skill was already so potent, one could only expect the extent of Grade B2 marksmanship skills. Grade A that was higher in rank was, without a doubt, divine! As for Grade S… it was arriving at the pinnacle!
Dismantling and assembling were the basics of handling a pistol. Lin Chao checked the cartridge —six bullets. It was enough to kill six Gold-class mutated beasts.
The team moved rapidly.
"The meeting point is at the city center twenty miles away. We'll follow the road signs there to save time and avoid taking detours," Chu Shanhe subconsciously glanced at Lin Chao after saying that and asking unknowingly, "What do you think?"
"Okay." Lin Chao agreed with a slight nod.
Chu Shanhe immediately took the lead of the team.
There were a lot of zombies on the road wandering around bus stops and parks. When officer Little Song saw the mountainous festering silhouettes, he pulled a long face and commented. "There are too many monsters on the streets. Won't we be seen if we just go over like this?"
"Why don't we disguise ourselves?" The older doctor said carefully, "These monsters are left with eye whites. Medically, their vision is close to zero. They mainly depend on their sense of smell. If we disguise the smell on us and our appearance, we should be able to deceive them?"
The young girl in pink nurse uniform paled. "Vice director, isn't it too dangerous? What if…"
The vice director of the hospital glared at her. "Shush! Nobody will take you as a mute even if you don't speak!"
Chu Shanhe mused and spoke up, "I think it's a worthy attempt. What do you think, Brother Lin Chao?"
