Sure enough, many, many more bodies popped up overnight.
Now, the throne room was a cacophony of raised voices and heated arguments, the normally dignified courtiers had transformed into a mob of frightened, angry citizens.
Zephyra stood at the edge of it all, her eyes narrowed as she watched the proceedings with a growing sense of unease.
"Your Majesty, please," one of the lords was saying, his voice trembling with barely contained panic. "We must act now, before this plague spreads any further. The nim are a danger to us all!"
A murmur of agreement rippled through the crowd, and Zephyra held back a scowl.
[So, that's it, huh?] Zephyra realized what was going on. [The true purpose behind this all was to simulate an illness. But, why? Just so we'd quarantine the nim of the city?] She narrowed her eyes at nothing in particular. [Why? To what end?]
