Sato never imagined that Nurse Joy would ask him to assist with healing, and could he really refuse her request?
To be honest, if he could, Sato would've liked to just get away from this place. But he knew that rejecting her could have serious consequences. For all trainers, there's one group you should never offend: Pokémon medical professionals; the people responsible for treating your Pokemon and saving their lives. Offending them unnecessarily is an extremely foolish decision.
Pokémon have a very unique physiology, making it difficult to treat their injuries with regular medical techniques. Since trainers frequently engage their Pokémon in battles, injuries are inevitable.
Because of this, a special profession called Pokémon medical trainers emerged, dedicated to providing proper medical care to Pokémon. These professionals have been around as long as trainers themselves, though they are relatively few in number. They often work quietly behind the scenes, but their efforts are extremely crucial to the success of many trainers.
The most widely recognized Pokémon medical trainers are undoubtedly the Joy family. The Joy's are the only Pokémon medical family officially acknowledged by the League.
A significant reason for the Joy family's prestigious status in the League is their exclusive mastery of raising Chansey, and their control over its natural habitat.
Of course, the history of the Joy family extends far beyond the creation of the Pokémon League. Besides Chansey, which is now considered their signature Pokémon, the Joy family has honed many advanced medical techniques over the centuries.
Their expertise in Pokémon anatomy and medical research has always been at the forefront of global medicine.
How important is the Joy family's role in the League? The answer is clear: extremely important. For most trainers, offending Nurse Joy is unthinkable.
If you truly offend a Nurse Joy and end up on their blacklist, you're in serious trouble. It's highly likely that your career as a trainer would almost be over.
You'd soon find that no matter which Pokémon Center you visit, the Nurse Joy there would simply refuse to treat you. Worse still, even non-League medical facilities could deny you care.
In the medical world, the Joy's are powerful, nearly untouchable entity. Offending a Nurse Joy is akin to angering the entire Pokémon medical community, leaving you with no one to provide treatment.
Unless you possess impressive healing abilities yourself, or align with a group that dares to oppose the Joy family, your journey as a trainer would be over. You might as well go home and take up farming.
So when Nurse Joy asked Sato for help, refusing was not an option.
Even though he had Bellossom, a Pokémon with healing abilities, who could say what strange illness might affect his Pokémon that even Bellossom couldn't cure? If he offended Nurse Joy now and had no one to turn to later, it would be a disaster.
"No problem, happy to help," Sato said with a smile, fully aware of Nurse Joy's influence. He turned around and politely responded to her request.
"That's wonderful! Please follow me. These patients were injured in the explosion earlier, and they're in critical condition. My Chansey is already exhausted, so could you have your Bellossom use Grassy Terrain to ease their injuries?" Nurse Joy said gratefully, quickly leading Sato to the critical injury zone.
When Sato looked around, he noticed that most of the people and Pokémon lying here were League trainers and their Pokémon, the same ones who had participated in the earlier fight against the rogue bikers.
They had all suffered severe injuries from the explosion, with most of the patients exhibiting varying degrees of burn wounds. The more seriously injured even had multiple puncture wounds caused by sharp debris from the explosion. The fact that they were still alive was a testament to both their resilience and the expertise of the medical staff.
The rogue biker gang leader's reckless actions had been too sudden. In that earlier explosion, the League trainers surrounding the restaurant barely had time to react or take defensive measures, so it was inevitable that they were heavily injured.
Especially those who had infiltrated the restaurant—likely with little chance of survival. Sato himself only avoided losing consciousness entirely thanks to Zubat's Protect move, which absorbed much of the impact from the shockwave.
Moreover, if it hadn't been for that black-haired girl and her two powerful Psychic-type Pokémon, he and the severely wounded would likely have been crushed by the collapsing skyscraper. No one would have survived.
"That was incredible... She's already that powerful at such a young age. Compared to her, I'm far behind," Sato said softly, still shaken by the sight of the girl and her two Psychic Pokémon holding the entire building in place with their abilities.
At the same time, Sato had now recognized the identity of this girl with extraordinary Psychic power. After all, this was Saffron City, and the only black-haired girl with such strong Psychic abilities was none other than Sabrina.
"Though I'm not sure why you intervened, there's no doubt you saved my life. I'll remember this favor. If I ever get the chance, I'll repay you," Sato silently vowed to himself.
While Sato was privately feeling grateful to Sabrina for saving his life, the black-haired girl in her white dress, accompanied by her two Psychic Pokémon, appeared at the explosion site.
Alongside Sabrina and her two Pokémon were eight League trainers, all dressed in military uniforms. They stood around her with deep respect on their faces.
"If there's nothing else, I'll be heading back. Seriously, I had just gone to bed, and now this happens. You're all useless," Sabrina said, yawning and sounding annoyed as she floated just above the ground using her Psychic powers.
None of the League trainers dared to protest her complaints. After witnessing her Psychic powers firsthand, they all knew just how strong this black-haired girl was. They also knew of her reputation—stories of the new Saffron Gym Leader's short temper. If they made her angry, they could be turned into dolls and suffer through a nightmare-like experience.
"Lady Sabrina, we haven't found the thief's body at the explosion site, nor the stolen item. Have you discovered anything?" One of the League trainers, the one with the highest rank, cautiously stepped forward and respectfully asked her.
In truth, they weren't particularly concerned about whether the rogue biker gang leader had survived. What worried them was the item he had stolen. It was something the League had commissioned Silph Co. to produce, and they were responsible for its transport. If they couldn't retrieve it, they wouldn't be able to explain the failure to their superiors.
"How would I know? By the time I got here, the skyscraper was about to collapse. I didn't have time to deal with your little issue. I don't know. You figure it out yourselves. I'm tired and going back to sleep," Sabrina replied, clearly irritated by the question.
Before the League trainer could respond, Sabrina teleported away, disappearing right in front of their eyes.
