Chapter 10: Let It All Burn II

........

'Survival. Knowledge. Power. Countdown.' Yovan recited his priorities in mind, keeping his composure because the most thing he wanted at the moment was to flare his wings and fly to the sky, but... No rest for the wicked.

He first observed the surroundings without heading into the forest before him. God knows what dangers are in there. He'd much rather be in an open area where he can see everything around him.

He then walked along the shore for a bit, finding a branch strong enough to function as a spear. He then got a sharp rock and carved the branch tip into a pointy tip.

"It's not strong, but it'll do," Exhaustion was apparent on his face, not sleeping for three entire days was hard, but he was managing better than expected.

Especially after he ate the devil fruit, his exhaustion seemed to recede significantly which he attributed to the massive increase in his endurance.

However, he needed a lot of energy before anything else, so he walked back into the ocean until the water level surpassed his knees a bit.

He remained still and prepared to pierce through any fish that comes within his range, and his range was quite vast as even fishes several feet around from him found themselves stabbed.

Strangely, however, the spear rarely touched them, what did was what appeared to be sharp compressed air forming into a spear to nail the target.

Yovan was still not too sure how it works. It all just feels natural. It happened long ago during one of his hunting sessions. He just felt like he could do it, so he did.

The only explanation for that was Limitless, but there is no option showing such a technique, yet an option appeared for the devil fruit, something that confused him.

He can assume though that it's because the devil fruit is special, but he at least knows that Limitless is still in effect even when not shown.

His speed and accuracy were immaculate. It was something he had done thousands of times after all, so he didn't miss once, not even when the smallest of fishes tried to escape, his clutches still reached them.

He spent a while catching more, collecting eight in total, most of which were very small but enough to satiate his hunger.

Yovan didn't even hesitate to break the fishes in two with his bare hand and mouth before starting to eat them raw after he made sure they aren't some kind of poisonous fish of course.

He devoured each one of them in a matter of seconds, a testament to his hunger. He cleaned himself with ocean water directly after.

After he had his fill, he sought out knowledge, starting with himself. It's been so long since his eyes met those of humans, and he didn't know whether the first ones he'll meet would be enemies or friends.

He wanted to make an accurate judgment of his level of strength, speed, and most importantly, reaction time when compared to the inhabitants of this world.

So he started with a bit of max speed bursts through the shore, and followed some simple reaction time tests, 'I should be at least six times stronger than when I got to this world but is this enough? And is it strong enough to contend with the normal inhabitants of this world?'

Yovan figured the only way to find out is to go into that forest and explore for any signs of civilization nearby, but it was not time just yet.

[Crow: Beast Form] The transformation was instant, almost like the sweet breeze of nature, Yovan found himself in his beast form, a small crow with crimson eyes.

He started flying about though he made sure to remain close to the ground. He didn't want his odd activity to be seen before he can have good control of his powers.

Something to be noticed by Yovan almost instantly was the crow's speed. It was extremely swift, much faster than him in his human form.

He assumed that the transformation to the beast form amplifies most of his stats significantly because he felt two times faster though he didn't feel like his strength increased much.

The movement of the crow was definitely something not possible by any normal crow, and that continued for several more minutes before Yovan transformed back, falling to his knees, completely exhausted.

He was panting and sweating, completely drenched. In fact, his skin looked red. He couldn't say or do anything but lie on the sand, absolutely drained.

'Holy fuck it's way too exhausting, only about nine minutes and I'm already like this?' However, despite his sorry state, a bright smile surfaced on Yovan's face, 'Isn't this like the best training method?'

[Devil Fruit: Kakin Kakin no Mi, Model: Crow: 72/∞]

Indeed, the increase of his devil powers stats was exponential but he wasn't talking about that, he was also referring to several of the other stats, especially Endurance because if he continued to exhaust himself like this, wouldn't that mean pushing his limits? Thus increasing his stats.

He remained lying on the shore, his eyes trying to close by themselves due to exhaustion, but he didn't allow it. He fought the need to sleep and rest and waited until he could move again.

He crawled himself to the shallow waters, cleaning himself from sweat and getting rid of his human-like smell. He then limped slowly to the woods not far from the shore.

He found himself some dirt and balled all over it, dirtying himself completely before crawling through a large bush, making sure not a part of his body is shown, then he closed his eyes.

Yovan was usually the type to not sleep much, mostly because he had trouble with quickly going to sleep. Most of the time, he'd have to just lay there for an hour or so before he can sleep.

This time however was different. It was instant, the moment he closed his eyes, he was far gone into the lands of dreams.

It was only three days ago that he faced quite the dark time against a monster, and the incident made him a lot more cautious as he assumed similar beasts would be in the woods, so he hid his smell and slept lest he loses consciousness due to fatigue.

He wandered the land of dreams for a full day and night before he was awoken by the heavy rain and thunder.

As if by instinct, the first thing he did was to stand up and open his mouth wide to the sky, satiating his thirst.

"What a day. What a week. It's about to be what a year, so let's make the best out of it." He murmured as he eyed his surroundings again.

He left his spear in the bush before he crouched down, tensing the muscles of his leg before jumping up, his goal was the tree closest to him.

Befitting of his stats, he flew right to its top, clutching to it easily with his one hand and legs.

Instantly, Yovan narrowed his eyes at two directions, it was very vague due to the weather, but he could see smoke rising from two areas, one of which was vaguer than the other.

'Let's see, it's cold and with how heavy it's raining, it shouldn't be wildfire but chimneys. That one seems to be a collection of them, a village perhaps though it's far away. The other one seems to be in the middle of the woods... What kind of maniacs would live there?'

He certainly didn't want to find out as he directly entered his beast form, flying higher for only about a minute before coming back down. He had established a route to his destination.

Yovan didn't hesitate much, using the heavy rain and thunder as a cover from whatever predators run amock in the woods.

He walked along the shore for a while before heading through the rainforest, keeping it low, his hand squeezing the spear, ready to act at a moment's notice.

However, he ended up meeting very few beasts, most didn't seem interested in him while some had a staring contest with him before turning around and leaving.

He found the beasts' instincts to be amazing, and they seemed more intelligent than creatures of his earth. Still, he remained cautious until he reached his target.

'Hmm, Chinese architecture? Yup, I have no idea where I am.' Yovan observed the small village with buildings characterized by Chinese-style architecture.

The village looked peaceful with few people walking about, but he still kept his spear ready as he walked closer, instantly attracting the attention of the villagers.

Only a few seconds later, the sound of bells reverberated throughout the village, followed by the assembly of basically everyone, eyeing Yovan cautiously.

An old lady adorned in a green rope approached Yovan fearlessly as she gently smiled and asked, "What brings you here? Traveler?"

"May I know where I'm? And excuse my cautiousness, my current state should speak to what I went through." Yovan acted civil but even more alert.

The old lady eyed his missing arm, the visible bloody shoulder, and bone. It seemed recent, and he also looked a bit messy, shirtless, and barefoot, "I see... I'm not sure where you came from, so also excuse our wariness, but this is our humble village, a part of Kano Country."

"Huh? Yeah, I have no idea where or what that... Hmm?" Yovan halted his words, his instinct honed by not only the dangers of the woods but also by his devil powers were triggered as he instantly turned around.
