Chapter 56

" Haa...Haa...Haa... " Axel breathed in heavily as bolted upright. His hands clutched the sheets while his eyes stared at the bed he was on. His breathing went back to normal, he looked around the room. He was in the infirmary.

He looked up at the ceiling before falling onto his back with his arms laid out on the bed. His mind wandered to the events that transpired on Nabu Island.

As he did, Axel was surprised and horrified by what he saw. Fear crept into his mind while the events kept replaying his head on loop.

' Is that me? ' Axel thought with a horrified look on his face.

That was the question Axel thought about. He never showed much emotion to others for a long time, keeping a straight face most of the time with a few smiles and chuckles here and there. Those were quite rare.

However, what he saw, terrified him. Was that really who he was underneath? That sadistic, unhinged Axel that he saw, toying with Nine before killing him, was that really him? Is that who he is when the layers are peeled back?

There was also the fact he killed Nine, but in all honesty, he felt nothing. He doesn't regret killing Nine at all. The only thing that he was scared of, was himself.

Axel laid on the bed, looking at the ceiling. Eventually, the sunlight shone through the window, illuminating the room. But Axel didn't get up at all, the events replaying in his head.

The door opened as Axel looked towards the door to see Recovery girl walked into the room. She looked at Axel who stared at her with tired eyes.

" You're finally awake. That took longer than expected. You must have pushed yourself way past your limits to be asleep for 2 weeks. " Recovery girl said as she went to her desk.

" Yeah, I'm beat. " Axel said with an exhausted tone, before tensing up at the words and tone he had.

" I'm sure you are. " Recovery Girl chuckled as she found her medical equipment.

" Time for a check-up. " She said as she went towards Axel.

" Just follow my lead. It won't take too long. "

" Okay. " Axel said with a smile before tensing up and wiping the smile off his face.

If Recovery Girl noticed that change, she hid it well as she went about her inspection without any problems and didn't ask about Axel's change in behavior.

" You're all good. I'll go get Nezu. A lot has happened since you got yourself extended beauty sleep. " Recovery Girl said with a smile.

" I can't wait to know... " Axel said with a bright smile on his face, "the amount of homework I probably have to finish. " Axel said, switching to an annoyed face as he thought about the amount of work he probably has.

Recovery Girl smiled before leaving the room. Her smile dropped as she walked to Nezu's office, thinking about Axel's behavior.

She entered Nezu's office and walked up to the mouse who was currently enjoying morning tea with cheese and crackers on the side.

" Good Morning, Recovery Girl. What brings you here? " Nezu asked as he ate a cracker.

" Axel woke up. " Recovery Girl said as she stared at the mouse.

" That's good, but what's wrong? " Nezu said as he noticed her expression.

" He's changed. " She said as Nezu stared at her. " He's a lot more expressive now than before. He was sarcastic, had larger smiles than the small ones he had before, and has mood swings, going from a happy expression to an annoyed expression quickly. "

" I see. " Nezu said as he thought about what she said. Axel going into a coma was the result of overusing his quirk. What Recovery girl said, would be the result of the battle itself. They don't know what transpired during the fight, since no one was there to witness it.

" Then I'll go check on him myself. " Nezu said happily as he ate the rest of his crackers and wiping his mouth with a napkin before throwing it in the bin.

He walked to the infirmary where he saw Axel laying on the bed, staring at the ceiling. He knew from experience that Axel was currently contemplating his life at the moment. Very common at that age, especially after fighting villains.

Axel looked at Nezu watched walked into the room.

" Sup. " Nezu said with a smile as he looked at Axel.

" Sup. " Axel said with a strained smile, which Nezu noticed.

" 2 weeks of being in a coma. That's a new record. " Nezu said as he sat on a chair.

" It is. I'm thinking about celebrating. " Axel said as he looked at Nezu. His expression and tone were strained.

' Seems he changed way more than expected. ' Nezu thought as he looked at Axel. ' But is suppressing himself. '

" That can be arranged for later. For now, you need information. Time waits for no one. " Nezu said.

" True. " Axel said.

" The villains on Nabu Island were all arrested, except for the one you probably fought. " Nezu said, eyeing Axel who made no comments on the topic, but his eyes told Nezu everything he needed to know.

" The inhabitants are all safe and sound. No one was injured. Once we found your unconscious body, we brought you back here to be healed while the other students continued their job.

Once they came back, all of them started applying for agencies while dealing with schoolwork, which by the adrenaline you have a lot of. Good luck with that. " Nezu said with a smile as Axel's mood worked at the thought of homework.

" You can ask Aizawa for the work you need to compete. Also, you won't be allowed to go to an agency at the moment, until you finish all that work. " Nezu said as he hopped off the chair and walked towards the door.

" Have fun with that. " Nezu said as he left the room. He didn't hear a reply as Axel just stared at the door before looking outside the window.

Nezu's mind however was working at an incredible speed as he analyzed Axel's behavior.

' Yeah, he diffently killed Nine. ' Nezu thought. ' His behavior change is probably due to that fight. He must have snapped at that moment, breaking out with a new attitude similar to what Recovery girl told me about.

There was a lot of blood in the area. There was even a piece of a finger left at the sight. DNA tests showed that it was Axel's. He must have been seriously injured, yet his body is in peak condition. There's nothing wrong with him.'

' The best possibility is for him to have a quirk awakening, allowing him to heal himself during the fight. ' Nezu thought as he entered his office and sat on his chair, spinning around in it as he laid back on it.

' How interesting. ' Nezu thought with a grin. ' I wonder what his ability is and more importantly, what will happen in the future. Though it will take a while till the results arrive. '

Axel changed his clothes before going to see Aizawa. The conversation went smoothly but Aizawa wasn't stupid and could see Axel restraining himself.

" Axel. If you want someone to talk to, just come to me. " Aizawa said when Axel was about to leave.

" Thanks, Mr. Aizawa. " Axel said as he walked out the door.

Aizawa sighed as he watched his student leave. Axel's restraint is clearly visible in his speech.

' What even happened on that island? ' Aizawa thought.

' I'll call Mandalay. Eri and Kota will be glad to know that he's awake. '

...

" Axel. You're alive. " Kirishima said as he went up to his friend and gave him a bro hug. Axel had a smile on his face as he hugged Kirishima back.

" Yep. God told me that it wasn't my time. " Axel said witha smile, that he was trying to remove from his face.

Kirishima and Mina froze as they looked at him. Mina ran up to her friends as Kirishima held Axel by the shoulders.

" What happened? " Kirishima asked as he grabbed Axel by the shoulders, staring at his friend while Mina asked up to them and stared at Axel as well.

Axel stared back at them. They were his friends, people who he could rely on but not a word came out as his face struggled to stay blank like usual. He couldn't say anything. He was afraid of what they would think when he told and showed them what he saw and did.

Kirishima and Mina said nothing as they looked at their friend. Not saying a word, they both hugged him as Axel just enjoyed their embrace.

" Tell us when you're ready. " Kirishima said seriously.

" We'll always be here to listen. " Mina said seriously.

At that, Axel's widened before returning to their normal state before hugging them back, not letting himself speak at that moment.
