Meet Ashlyn, a 10 year old girl with an Abusive mother, a father with gambling issues and a brother who has already said hello to the heavens after being beaten to death by their mother, right before her eyes. One day, Ashlyn’s father bites off more than he can chew, leaving them in great debt. After running away, Ashlyn is left with her crazed mother who beats her to take out her frustration. Eventually, the gambling house realizes that they haven't got their money yet. When they hear that the man who had gambled ran away and left his wife and a half-blood dragon daughter behind, they decide that the two of them can make up for his debts, and don't hesitate to kidnap both of them.

I groan and open my eyes only to see the backside of a man as he carries me over his shoulder down the road.
Quiet, girl." He says as he continues to walk, "don't even try to run away. You ain't gettin' nowhere with me here. Just lay there obediently or else i'll have ta' knock you out again."
...I wasn't even going to fight anyways, not that I could even if I wanted too.
"Where are you taking me?" I question, my voice sounds raspy and burns with every word I say.
"Away from here. That's all you need to know. Now quiet, I don't like hitting children, but I will still do it." He says, his voice as rough and raspy as mine, except much deeper and more natural.
I sigh and turn my head to the side.
Honestly, I don't really care where he was taking me.
It couldn't have been worse than my own home, now could it?
I was wrong. Oh so very wrong. Compared to the place that they were taking me, my home was a paradise.
