Argument over a taste

*Okay folks! Now coming onto our next question, are you ready?!*

An enthusiastic voice knocked Ayana back to her senses as she gently opened her eyes on the bed. She could feel another being sharing the comfy warm blanket with her with a red bowl containing some crunchy snacks on her laps.

"Popcorn?" Ayana muttered as she raised herself to see it was no one else but Betty watching a downloaded video on her laptop.

"Yep! You want some? It's caramel flavoured though." She offered her the bowl of sweet and salty popcorns but Ayana returned it back from disgust as she truly hated this combination of taste.

"Seriously, why would you add cinnamon powder to classic popcorns?! You ruined it!" She angrily claimed while leaning closer to take a look at the laptop. 'Just when did she downloaded all of this on my laptop?! Urgh! And wait, is that the lame daddy jokes show? Sigh, why am I not surprised?'

Hearing her sudden denial, Betty also raises herself to defend her choice in taste. "Heh?~ it ain't really that bad once you give it a try. Here give it a shot."

She picks a piece with the least cinnamon on it and passes it to Ayana, who once again denies it, but this time with a cold glare.

"Fine, fine, geez~ what about when you make that sugarless latte? It's so disgusting." Betty shrugs while focusing back on her paused screen but Ayana stops her in doing so by flipping the laptop aside.

"It ain't disgusting! Also, it's just slightly less than the amount of sugar those company sell in expensive cafes. Not only does it taste great, but it's also healthier!" She grudges.

"Well, so is the cinnamon~"

"What?"

Although Betty still wanted to defend her position, she afraid to do so as otherwise it would take so long. She realised it late how badly she wanted to watch that episode complete, but apparently she struck her own head with axe by making the owner of the laptop upset. And once that owner is upset, it takes a lot of effort to convince her.

She tries to take the laptop just in case, but misses it by few inches when Ayana suddenly grabs her slender hand. Unable to say anything for a while, she smiles nervously and leans back while answering her question.

"Nothing. Anyway, would you like to hear a new joke?"

She decides to lighten the mood by her newly developed skill of making jokes, but it goes without saying her bestie was completely disinterested in that.

"Do you really think I am in the mood to-" Ayana mutters under her breath in a whisper but Betty cut her short and starts speaking with full confidence and an amusing tone.

"So tell me, why shouldn't you trust a stair?" She begins.

For a minute, Ayana stares at her with a cold eyes but eventually give up as she realises how stubborn Betty could be. She recalls what her question was and said with a perplexing look on her face.

"What? Uh, because there's a possibility I might skip a step and fall?" She guesses with her left brow raised. Hearing her response, Betty points her finger in air and finishes her joke with a broad grin.

"Nope! It's because they are always upto something." She cheerfully speaks and peeks through the narrow slit between her eyelid, only to notice Ayana rolling her eyes.

".... You done?" Ayana said but was once again interrupted to hear another joke. She sighed in frustration as she started to picture her sitting here entire day until she laughs atleast once. But Betty didn't cared a thing about that. She was deeply immersed in enjoying the moment and laughing at her jokes.

"No, okay so next. What does a CIA agent do when he goes for bed?"

"...." Ayana was completely exhausted by this point.

"He goes under cover, pfft!"

A boisterous laughter follows by as Betty finishes her joke, to the point she forgets it wasn't even her first time hearing it. But while Betty was struggling to stop her tears of joy, Ayana's soul had long left her body after hearing this lame joke.

Without even realising, her lips were already turned into an awkward smile and her eyelids were twitching autonomously.

"Haha, so funny. Look, I am almost dying from laughter. Haha." She said sarcastically and soon began to grab her laptop and blanket to leave this room.

Without wasting any time, she immediately gets off her bed and walks away followed by Betty who tries to stop her.

"Would it kill you to laugh a little?" She complains with a somewhat disappointed face, when suddenly Ayana turns back and gives her a firm response.

"Well, no. But I am not in the mood right now. So let's just to the point already. Why did you came here?"

Although the tides of tension seemed to raise high for Betty, she didn't flinched once as she knew well how to deal with this situation. She knew Ayana wasn't a bad person and whatever she yells isn't what she actually means most of the times. Her emotions gets the best of her and loses control whatsover the situation maybe.

Betty takes a deep calm breath and relaxes her shoulders before giving her the answer.

"Uh... nothing in particular. I just like coming here. Besides Nancy is having exams nowadays so I was thinking if I could shift over here for a week." She manages to make that chilled face and decides to answer her the most careful way possible.

"Nope. Absolutely not. Last time too you said the same excuse and created havoc in my house. It's not my fault that you are so noisy that Nancy has to kick you out. Poor Nancy, I wonder how does she cope up with a sister like this."

Although Ayana seemed a bit too angry, it didn't looked the same now. Maybe it was thanks to Betty's younger sister, that Ayana deeply cherished, that thing began to cool down again. Seeing this as a good opportunity, the shine returns back to her face and she speaks even more softly to keep her calm expression.

"Hey! I am not that bad okay? You are much more worse than mine." She jokes to which Ayana also scoffs sarcastically.

"Yeah, yeah. By the way, when did you downloaded this on my laptop?....no wait, how do you know my password?!!!"

As usual, the realisation struck her memory late.

"Mhmmm, I wonder that as well fufu!"

"Urk!"
